Ok, the poor guy already has enough gear to hump around in the boonies with, but on some shows I'd love for Les to use one of those tiny new airfoil cameras for some fantastic aerial shots. Imagine the "canyon" show or maybe the boreal forest one with more airborn vid...could be pretty awesome. I know the military has some very small lightweight flying cameras -- about shoebox size or smaller-- in development or already deployed, but not sure if civilan tech like that is yet available. What say you? Good idea? Bad? (No trolls need respond, just honest Survivorman fans)

Deployed and controlled by someone on the support team. A couple on 'lipstick cams' mounted in a large RC airplane would be workable on their buget. If there are any RC modlers on this board, they can tell the logistics/needs for a such a plane/helicopter.

Yeah but the Predator is way too big for Les's small operation. Maybe your buddy Bear with his much larger crew and fancy resorts could handle something that big, theman010. I'm talking really small, single-man portable. freebirde is on the right track.

Great idea for camera angles Cool.....Would be nice if les and His crew can come up with some way of doing this without making more work for Him. Wink

Very interesting idea! At the very least, you could get some interesting spontaneous shots at night. I'm wondering how fragile the system would be, however. I mean, it is very cool, don't get me wrong, but if I was humping a trail with that gear, I'd worry about it failing on me, or having a gear bust down. I'm sure the base crew will come by and fix it for him but it sounds tedious.

Maybe if the base crew use it while he's sleeping or to see if they can get some interesting stuff from the surrounding area he's exploring? Hmmmm...

While it would be great camera views of the scenery, the limited flight time and limited controller range range of standard RC planes/helos would mean that Les's emergency support team would have to be very close to him indeed.

Then you are getting into the whole thing that plagues the "other show", support staff "right there", which would lead to undermining everything that Les's show has built up that makes it a more realistic show than the "other show".

As for the Predator, not going to happen. The military isn't going to divert a valuable resource that supports ongoing combat operations simply to film a show and give it "better and more stunning" camera views/angles.

As to any of the "smaller" RC surveillance craft which may or may not be available commercially and that would be small and lightweight enough to be carried by Les...Les would have to undergo some pretty extensive training to operate them single handedly and the equipment itself would be beyond SM's budget.

While some different camera angles would make for "great viewing of scenery", IMHO the scenery is just great as it is. Any attempts to add aerial footage would result in SM being accused of the same deceptions as the "other show".

SM is great with the camera angles he already works hard to get. Lets not make more work for Les.

Just my $.02...

If Les can take the extra time and energy to carry and set up for some spectacular camera shots, and still be able to survive, then the "average joe/jane" has a excellent chance at surviving a week or more in the wilderness following his advice.

Not really the average Joe/Jane, they would need to have learn't just a little bit of survival techniques to actually survive.

i noticed he gets some great shots by leaving the camera behind and then he has to go back for it and it must really be a drag i realized. like TOTALLY annooying.
