my cousins horse is awesome and improving but the only thing wrong is that when we ask her to back up she throws her head in the air. Weve tried her in side reins and draw reins and she sets her head awesome in them but when we get her in her show bit she throws her head up.weve tried eyerthing and its not working. We show her in a 2in kimberwick correction bit. Anny suggestions??
dear carissar88 here is a training tip for backing up. use a rope halter for training, i find that it works best. take the lead rope in your left hand and a pole that is about three or four feet longin your right hand. if the horse hasnt ever been introduced to a pole or something like it PLEASE for your own safety make sure your horse is comfortable with the pole. distance yourself rufly four feet from the horse. lead still in hand take the pole and tap the lead rope gentale, enough so the horse can feel it, four times in a row. then continue this four times increaseing the power of the the strikes to the lead rope each time. if the horse backs up before the fourth round stop. then the horse will understand that that is what you want. don't forget to say back up while doing this so the horse has voice recagnition. do this until satisfide. now take away the pole and say back up. if the horse doesn't back up then put your hand on the front right shoulder below the neck of the horse.this a preasure point that should make the horse back up. DON't FORGET TO SAY BACK UP. eventually the horse will learn to back up. and about the bit problem some bits may not be liked by a horse you will just have to deal. that is all my advise that i han give so bye.
