I actually had a little hope that Animal Planet might have a more balanced show than NBC. The Rolex Final World Cup show was a big disappointment. 1.5 hours and only 20 minutes of Dressage if that long. I know that the American public likes show jumping for the thrill and crash so go watch NASCAR. I rode in show jumping about 1,000 years ago and I have no interest in it now. At least make it more balanced with more dressage and run through some of the jumping rounds of only the top riders. Maybe if people watched more Dressage they would learn just how difficult the sport actually is.
I was thrilled to hear that Animal Planet would be covering the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas...and dismally disappointed at the televised broadcast. Thanks to the DVR, I recorded the show and was so annoyed (read: obsessed) at the Dressage coverage that I actually replayed and TIMED it. The time devoted to Dressage was less than 4 minutes - truthfully, I believe the announcers spent more time TOUTING the Dressage events than they actually AIRED!!! Come on, Animal Planet, this was a World Cup event for the dressage participants as well, but by the "coverage" nobody would ever know it.
i kno this is hard to understand but animal planet has a job to do and that is to get as many ppl to watch their show as they can. horse back riding is already one of the least popular sports and the only way ppl are gonna watch it is if it exciting that is y they showed mostly jumpers becasue it is exciting and that is y they showed the ppl fall a million and one times i kno it is dissapointing but that is their job to keep tv very interesting..
adding to what eqxhunter said....its truee...a lot of people that areN"T equestrians would find dressage very boring.....i love to watch it..but others...they don't understand it!! it would disappoint the publicity cuz they want to see people jumpin huge....knocking rails...refusals...etc. its exciting to them =[!
