Not my favorite mounts but you do have to hand it to them. They have to go around doing the same thing 3-4 times a day while little kids (and some adults) tug on their mouths and kick them and smack them...yet most (okay...some)remain incredibly good natured.
My favorite was a Welsh pony named Frosty who at the age of 42 taught me how to canter my first triple combination.
I used to work at a barn where I was in charge of riding the lesson horses that had been bad or hadn't been ridden that day after all the students left. They taught me a lot about riding and getting on other horses. My favorite school horse was probably this old jumper who took me over my first 3'3" jump. He was my favorite and very stubborn, but once you got him on course he was tons of fun and very forgiving.
Lesson horses are great. If u think about it they are probley the hardest working horses at most stables. Also they have taught me alot about riding. Hip, Hip, HURRAY for school horses!!!!
howdy yall! the horse i lease is a lesson horse. even though tons of (no offense) stupid little kids ride him and some bratty english girls( no offense again) i still LOVE HIM to death! im trying to fix the fact that he bobs his head like a plow horse when he jogs. Hes my boy! Buzz is DEFINATLY MY BOY!!!
a lesson horse should be good natured, experienced, and really like to work. Most lesson horses are older retired show horses who will take care of their mounorsets and teach them the basics of ridng. After a student has graduated from a lesson horse, many will move onto either riding numerous more advanced horses to hone thier skills, or purchase their own horse. I know that i went from riding a 23 year old ex-hunter/jumper/racetrack thoroughbred named captain. He really took care of me and with the help of my trainers, taught me everything i know. After i graduated from him, i purchased my partially green paint horse. If i hadnt learned to have a tight knee and sit up on captain, my neck would probably b broken right now!
