Hi. I own 6 horses and my youngest is a 8 months old paint filly. She has a really thick mane that has huge flakes of skin throughout. it's like giant dandruff. It doesn't look like rain rot so does anyone have any idea what it could be? No sores are visiable.
If she has hairloss, Check with you vet it could be a sign of ringworm. If this is your first time encountering the dandruff, consult a veternarian for treatment as importance to your horse's health.
The friend I bought her from was down last night so I took her to see Summer(horse). She said it was just dandruff and to conditioner the mane. Plus I had already treated for a fungal infection just incase thats what it was. No luck. I am worried though cause the weather is cold and my horses are pasture horses so no heated barn for them. I thought about a leave in conditioner. Know of any good remedies that won't freeze the butt off of her?
