Wasn't he a tattooer at the shop? I think I saw him once. I'm sorry to hear that. What happened?

Yes, he was one of the B-Team Soldiers, one of the artists who worked in the shop off-camera. A fantastic guy who will be missed.
He passed whilst on vacation in Costa Rica.

Is being present at Love/Hate the only way you can collect proceeds for his fund? Will there be one where people can send checks/money orders? I live in NY and won't be in Fl anytime soon, but if there's an addy I would gladly send something!

Does it really matter how Dan died? How is it going to affect *your* life?

All I care about is that I lost a friend, a tattoo artist and a generally wonderful person. He will be missed.

To flwr6pwr9 I just asked a simple question. If you don't like what I asked Im sorry, but this is a forum where we can ask questions to whoever. If you post that he has passed then people are going to respond to it with questions and comments. And on a personal note I have had the pleasure to meet Dan, so maybe it did affect *My* life in someway or another.

Good for you, Emma. It really gets on my nerves when people come on here and act like we have no right to an opinion or a question just because we don't know them personally. *Their* lives were changed because *we* watch the show.

I also get tired of people who come on here because they may know someone who knows someone who knows one of the people who work down the street from the shop. (hence the screenname)

She simply asked an innocent question, flwr. I am sorry you lost a friend. I know it is painful. I've lost friends, co-workers and immediate family members, but I don't jump down someone's throat when they ask me how they died.

Now this is my own assumption (and we know what assuming can get you), but it doesn't seem like this guy was innocent in his death because it seems to be such a secret regarding how he died. My guess is that he was doing something illegal.

I have known Dan since 1987 when he and his mom lived in Key West. When I married his mom we moved to Alabama and Dan moved with us. He was an artist already and had an interest in the tattoo trade even then. After a couple of years I joined the Army and was stationed in Ft. Polk, La, close to Leesville, where Dan began his career in tattooing. He started at Mikes Best in Leesville and he loved it from the start.
Life continued and eventually Dan's mom and I divorced in 2001. I was no longer a part of Dan's life. I would hear from time to time from his mom what he was up to and where he was working, but I never saw him again. Then I was told of his death. Lost to his friends and clients is a great human being and a true artist who loved his trade. My most sincere regret at his passing is that we were never able to resolve issues that stood between us after my divorce. Dan was a great kid and I enjoyed the times we had together and I miss him even now.

I was watching an episode last night, and it just happened to be the one where Dan's brother got the memorial tattoo...

Dan is the guy that did my tattoo for my 18th birthday in December of '06, and I'm pretty sure that there's nobody else that I would have had do it. He was an incredible artist, and a pretty fantastic person. I was shocked to hear about his death...it was always my goal to go get another tattoo from him, because he did such a great job on the first one.

I'm sure that he's truely missed, and it was pretty touching to see how all the guys in the shop came together and put their own individual touches into the memorial. Definitley the perfect image of true friendship.

Did Dan ever mention his daughter, Treasure, in Louisiana?

I knew Dan. I didn't have the pleasure getting one of his tatoo's but I had the pleasure of being his step-brother for about 10 years. If you knew us you may wonder why I say it was a pleasure to be his step-brother because we didn't get along for the most part. Once I moved out our relationship got better. I last saw him just before he joined Miami Ink and I was able to introduce him to my wife and he was so happy for me and wished me the best. For once I actually beleived him when he said that. That's the kind of man he grew up to be, an all around good guy.

Dan I would like to say it was a pleasure knowing you and I don't regret ever being your brother. I am sorry that your life ended so early but you will live on in my memories.
