I was disappointed, too. Everything just seemed...I don't know...forced. I understand it's a reality show (i.e. nothing real about it) but it seemed more contrived than previous episodes.

That's it exactly fiesty. I don't blame Ami, he's not an actor. It's the director's job to get a good performance out of him, but even the best director will struggle with a bad script.
I don't claim to be an expert narration writer, but I could certainly come up with better jokes than "stick a fork in him". Ugh.
ukdiva - we're in the middle of season 2 over here.

So true! It seems like the writers haven't learned enough about Ami's personality to write natural dialogue/monologue for him. He didn't seem comfortable saying half the things he said.
The writing is extremely bad, but I don't know if the blame falls on Ami. If there are writers for the show they need to spend more time with him to get a better feel for his personality and choice of language. The narration is painful to listen too, but not as bad as the sparkles. Which leads me to my next critique.
Last night instead of bits of sparkles covering the end result tattoo I noticed they decided to use one big shiney sparkle covering Harold's piece. The glare of it was completely distracting. Viewers would like to see the entire tattoo; sparkle free please.
More Garver and Darren tattoos next season. Less Ami and Nunez and the forced reminder that they are single players who love to party. More tattoos, less personal lives outside the business.
thought the nine-eleven bloke was so jolly about his tattoo-its a shame that he passed away.I for one thought it was really nice to dedicate the show to him.

I completely agree! Too much of the personal coverage and it feels "staged". Would love to see more of the "art".
I know what you mean about the sparkly shiny stuff. It really does take away from the finished tattoo. Sometimes they also use a soft focus lens. It makes the tattoo look so light and faded, instead of sharp and bold like new tats look.
Yoji's motorcycle filler was completely irrelevant to the show. What was the point of it all? Was anyone else wondering where he was going? Yoji looked like he was riding in circles around the block three or four times. Yoji where are you going? Need directions?
Show fillers are not necessary when the episode is already solid. Extend on the storyline of the artist or the person having work done. Fillers are not needed.
Did any one else notice that when they were trying to get yoji to eat the worm from the tequila, it was from the same time that Ami was getting his frog tatt. It just seems like they run out of new stuff to put on so they go to the older episodes and pull from what they have already taped.
i agree...wish i could have seen the brand shorts he had on again...*wink*...i think one i saw after had jostarr in again after we saw her wonderful performance!! where has she been anyway?? oh yeah me no like the sparkles either..i mean i love shining things but not like that!...ok drank way too much coffee this afternoon!
