Where do you want the tattoo some locations hurt more than others...Ribs, feet for example are hotspots...talk about this with an artist, however get it where you want it...
How high is your thresh-hold for pain??? Some can take a lot and some can't...for instance I went to the lovehandle hip area..over the spine...shoudler blade for my piece and these were suppose to hurt like no other based on what I heard and I was not bothered and actually napped a bit...so I have high thresh-hold. I've had more distress from my hair stylist pulling the tangles out of my hair.
How light-handed is your artist??? I think alot of my ouchless was because my guy has worked really hard to perfect his technique so he causes the least amount of discomfort as possible...
as Rubred said it depends on where you get it but the only thing I want to add is that manny people have a chemical breakdown after 5-10min of the tattoo so if you don't want to pass out bring yourself some water and a chocolate bar (I'm not kidding it's the only thing that helps a lot) and don't worry if it happens to you it's perfectly normal.
Break a leg.
Lt_TAZ Never knock on heaven's door..Ring the bell and run away (He hate's that.)
Some people do feel woozy..prolly do to sudden fright or a release of fright when they realize it's no biggie...I was lying down which is best to keep from fainting...and I sipped fruit juice up until it was time to begin. Then when I realized it was nothing I relaxed and all the tension released..I had such a great experience..the rush lasted a few days...I've never fainted or felt like I would. Now I just take myself and some music and some DOVE dark...just for fun!!!!
It's a tattoo. They are supposed to hurt. It will be a little scary at first, but then when you get used to the sensation, you'll be okay. The pain is just part of the experience and there is no way around it.
Josie ya know I love ya but I gotta disagree..tattoos are not "Suppose" to hurt, they either do or don't depending on the variables I listed....I have NEVER been hurt by a tattoo needle never...to me it feels like a very mild friction burn with a hint of sharpness but nothing I would call painful...perhaps my ouchless luck may run out but so far so good!!!
The vibration of the needle bothers me more than anything. The tattoo I got two weeks ago, didn't hurt at all, he recolored one and I never knew he went over that area. Very light handed.
And sometimes for me the tattoo hurts more the next day than the day I get them.
ruby...i mean this in the most adoring way, but you are the only person i have ever heard say that it didn't hurt to some extent. maybe definitions of "hurt" are different for people. was is unbearable and did i feel like i was dying? no. but it didn't feel like a feather being touched to my skin either.
Tattoos are needles entering ink into your skin...I don't know if you have ever had a needle touch your skin but yes-it hurts. Its not an unbearable pain though. However the pain is generaly worth it in the end if you are satisfied the final result that is
It is a case of different strokes for different folks. This subject pops up all of the time and as all before have said, it depends on your artists hand, your sensitivity, your preconceptions and the area where you get your tattoo. If I have a choice between tattoos and dentists - just get that needle buzzing dude(tte)! Gotta give respect to the ladies!
