Gosh Rob, I don't see it the same way you do at all. First, they are artists, and artists have to WANT to do art. Secondly, if the artist is not 'feeling' the tattoo, I think it's very professional of them to say no. They are being honest, to their own detriment, as they will be missing out on the payment.
However, as a professional in any occupation, one should not do something that is wrong, especially in this instance, as the artwork is NOT going away like a picture on a wall, or a sculpture you can toss in the closet.
They have to be sure of what they are doing as it is a permanent change for the tattooed. Eek

If it's so easy YOU DO IT!!! It is art and if you don't believe it, just ask the people wearing it for a life time. Additionally, their business relies on the quality of work that is displayed. If they don't feel like they can do a quality job, it is not only professional but good business.

Real Artists DO tell people what they think will work. They don't want you to plan badly which might affect any future work you might get and then you end up unhappy or looking like a dis-organized collage. I had an idea about something and my artist was like "Nope, won't do it...that will be to much work for your body type." My guy is world class btw and so I trust him completely. He's the artist not me, so he's probably the one who's right. Besides the client of Nunez's that you are referring(the one who liked cars) had way to many elements going on for her tattoo to make it artistically appealing. IMHO

well i think that was part of the problem with kat, being too selective and not wanting to do certain things. they should try to explain why they think something wont work and usually they do but then if the person still insists on getting it their way then all they can do is say ,ok but dont forget i warned you how it will turn out ,then do the best they can do . that way they have a clear concience and still get the money. on last nights show the oriental guy (forget his name) got yicked off really bad cuz some moron came in the shop and wanted a dragon but told the oriental dude that his dragons suck in so many words so an argument insuedand they lost the guys business . ami got mad but hey, that guy was a rude jerk , period!
then the short guy told a guy that came in that he wouldnt do a tat the way he wanted whick was a band around his arm because it wouldnt look right with the rest of the tat. the guy insisted that that is what he wanted and thought abut it alot ,so again he shouldve tried to tell him why it wouldnt work ,and he did but if the dude insisted he shouldve just said ok , but i told you so .if it doesnt look good after then its on you buddy. i know when i get one done that i have given it a great ammount of thought and i want what i am paying for .so if my guy dont want to do it he knows i will go elswhere and get it done.

People don't realize that the artist knows what will look good and what won't. They are saving people from their own ignorance. Anyone who thinks that those guys aren't true artists obviously never saw them freehand or create original art for the customer.Apparently robg never got tattooed because most time they only trace a general outline for reference and then create their art.

I agree with robg. My artist draws everything by looking while I am watching. The best tattos I got were from people that have been in Prison and yes I got to watch their creations. They do trace allot of stuff in this program but however the people are happy with them and it is an interesting show! I'll keep watching.

Whoever doesn't think this is art should see someone who's had a bad tatoo Frown There is definitely more to it than tracing and filling in.

how many tats do you have Rub ? If you really watch the show, a lot of what they do, is customer based. They may at some time add or subtract the work here and there...But (and here it is) Once the drawing is done and they place it on the stencil. Because if the customer doesn't like the size or maybe they want a line placed on or taken off, It can be done with ease. Also, Ami and Garver have freehand more then once on the show that I have seen. Again...what you have written is your own opinion and I respect that. But be it as it may. The tatt's are still COOL ! Big Grin So maybe you should research it some more or maybe hang in a tat shop and see how they handle ppl. The Customer is always write...but sometimes they need to have some direction... peace out.

while i understand everyones point and have many tattoos i also see robs point.sometimes they come across as too good to do someones tattoo.i dont have a problem with not doing the work it's how they handle the issue.ironically wasn't that kat's problem?guess it doesn't apply to nunez and ami...

EekI agree with you that sometimes they can be rather rude, but at the same time I would value their honesty rather than dishonesty to me. I wnated a tatoo of my deceased son.I was told that it was unrealistic beacuse he was so little and they couldnt see his facial strucure good enough to make it look like him. THey could have done this tatoo and it look nothing like him and me be all upset becasue i had a tatoo of no significance. Im glad they have the guts to say NO!!!
