I am an aspiring tattoo artist and I have many possible apprenticeships in several small parlors but when it comes to fufilling my dreams of tattooing, I figure "Go big or don't go at all", right?
So, I'm planning on visiting the Miami Ink shop next week and asking for an apprenticeship, or at least feedback. I'm bringing my portfolio and I'm planning on letting them know I'm ready to do whatever it takes.
How hard can it be?
(I tried to find any information on this online but all I know about MI apprenticeships is from the first season watching Yoji- i no longer own a TV and one episode where a woman walked in and asked and they said she wasn't right for MI)
It would be great to get an apprenticeship at Miami Ink, so perhaps you can talk to Yogi when you get there and ask him questions. If anyone can help it will be him.
Go big or not at all? That may suit you and if it suits everyone else there too you might have a job but most shops advertise for apprentices and take one on to train the rest of their lives. Although you may think its fate for you to walk in to Miami Ink and ask for an apprenticeship you have to respect that they haven't come to you first. But I dig your initiative. How hard can it be? Was that a real questions. How far down your timeline will you be stopping tattooing. I personally can't see myself tattoo career ever starting but i would love to help someone like you if I can, and I nobody can predict the future.
