it looks like discovery trying to cash in on cheap violence, trying to capture the 12-25 male market that watches Ultimate Fighting Championship on SpikeTV or something
this is junk- especially laughed at the black guy saying
"Theres gonna be one serious fatality. and it aint gonna be me."
What a dumb (curse word) show. I love my Deadliest, Everest, Dirtiest, Mythbusters and others, but this show is pure exploitation of one of the few indigenous peoples left in the world. Why bring them down to America's lowliness? Should have sent Paris Hilton and Britney Spears to be cheerleaders while you were at it. Next thing we know, the tribes are going to adopt the Nike 'swoosh' as their official sponsor. Weak.
You have to be kidding me. I am embarrassed that these guys represented "Westerners" in wrestling the tribe in South America. For goodness sake my 9 year old son with only basic knowledge of wrestling can hit a single leg!
I am not saying send olympic wrestlers but geez... Maybe someone who at least has seen a match on TV. The guys on the show are a joke.
And specifically - Brad... hate to tell you man you might have gotten some type of respect from the chief cause the camera was rolling, but your wrestling techniques are terrible. Go back to lifting weights.... Leave wrestling to the "warriors"
Discovery stick to shows in which you portray experts like Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs....
You guys got to keep an open mind, this show is great. It allows us to view the games and lifestyles of different cultures around the world, which not many "Westerners" get a chance to see. These six men are not only getting a rare opportunity, but their allowing us to get a small glance of what their going through. This show was a good idea and it will do well.
BTW-Just what is the difference between a "serious fatality" and a fatality? Aren't you "seriously" dead either way? Brad needs to go back to school or at least cut back on the steriods. Guy sounds like an idiot.

crew_vs_wild needs to pay attention, he says "There's gonna be one serious fatality, and I HOPE it's not me", and there is no difference between serious fatality and fatality, I know Brad would know there is no difference, so just because he's a big guy don't assume he's an idiot. Catitude 926, your argument doesn't even make sense.
"It allows us to view the games and lifestyles of different cultures around the world, which not many "Westerners" get a chance to see."
This is the kind of thing that any good documentary could cover. We don't need some (dumb) competition between well-to-do Americans and Third World ancient cultures to see how they live and interact.
This show is almost as good (note the sarcasm) as 'Man vs. Wild' and we all know what a fraud that show turned out to be.
ok in response to pretty much everybody on this board...? i do think they could have selected better athletes such as one or two proven MMA fighters or an actual kickboxer, not a salsa dancer, but this is what these ppl do they're whole lives and it is pretty interesting to see some unacustomed untrained american representitives in these situations...some of the episodes seem like they will be weak, but the stick fighting was pretty intense...also what is this 18-24 UFC demographic hatebreed talk, you may not be a huge fan, but how can you knock the actual athletes and their abilities, Man Vs. Wild is pretty much kind of a fraud

Hey, ya'll are stupid. It's mostly a good show. i think the cast needs to step up, but it'll get better. However, I do agree with genuineprofundity about the cast's shoddy wrestling abilities. Any boy out of the midwest would've kicked butt in the Kalapalao event.

hahahaha, exactly.
"Doctor, how's my wife?"
"Well, she's dead. Luckily it's not serious."
You are quick to jump on brad and call him an idiot after one statement... He used to work at the gym I worked out at and he is no idiot, he is no rhodes scholar but not a dummy. Even though he does have an ogre appearance he is really nice and always helped others with their workouts and tried to make everyone enjoy themselves.
I think people were expecting this to be just about fighting, but really its about seeing other cultures and how they relate to our culture while at the same time seeing how our western culture stacks up against their ancient customs. I find it immensely interesting that the answer to that question is not so well even though I wouldn't really expect it to be any different in such a short time of training.
I'm actually glad the athletes aren't doing better than they are. It would be humiliating for the host tribes if these outsiders came and completely outshined them in their own sport. If that's what we as viewers wish to see then I think that's our problem, not Discovery's or these athletes'.
True, we could probably find documentaries about any of these tribes, but having a narrator expain things isn't nearly as interesting as having people that we can relate to experiencing it first hand. I find the whole thing fascinating.

You misunderstand, I'm not jumping him because of one statement. That is just one, like "I always wanted to be a superhero" and "I am Brad, I am Brad!" after he won the first time. I also never said he wasn't helpful or nice, I just pointed out that he sounds like an idiot. IMO
Yes this show is about fighting. So what it's cool. I've always wondered how tribal people fight for survival and dominance and now we have a show that shows us. I think the guys are great. Maybe one or two could be replaced, but definately not rajko. Over all this show reveals how tribal people fight and the boys are brave enough to go through with it. That's pretty sweet if you ask me!!!!
So maybe the men on the show don't look the part but hey they are average guys. I'm interested in the different types of fighting or should I say challenges they face. The next show takes them to Mexico to run a race. So that's not fighting but a challenge that 75% of the American population I'm sure couldn't handle. The show is interesting and I'm glad these guys aren't pros at any special fighting style. For example I'm a career firefighter who has a black belt in Kuk Sol Won. I also teach forcible entry and speciality breaching methods to SWAT teams, SRTs, and military units. I would love to take on a challenge like these 6 guys. It's not about earning a salary or taking home a huge award for fighting it's about taking on something that isn't normal to us. Something you would never get the chance to do again. There are great athletes outside of our borders and hopefully we will see more of them. Keep an open mind and maybe the show will suprise you.
I think that this is an excellent show and an incredible opportunity for these men, regardless of what some people might consider an "athlete" to be. I happen to think it is a person who is willing to push themselves completely so as to be able to perform well physically. Its unfair to try and say that "Oh- OBVIOUSLY some of these dudes have never wrestled before." just because of their performance in Brazil, but to be fair- the things that the athletes (and yes, I call them athletes for the simple fact that they were willing to attempt the show at all considering what the show is asking of them) stated about being in a new environment were pretty legitimate. You DON'T know the conditions and you DON'T know their methods in fighting.
I'm pretty sure american high school wrestling strategies don't necessarily have to pan out when wrestling with men in some obscure indigenous tribe. Or what ever wrestling team some "nine year old" would belong to.
Besides, I'd like to see half the people who are so quick to rag on these guys about their performances as athletes even TRY and attempt this. Its probably not nearly as easy at it looks.
This show is so stupid is should have been on FOX. I expect that from them but not the discovery channel. This show is nothing but frat boys trying to beat up indigenous people. This is not respectful of these cultures in any way. It makes me sick to think that this is what has become of the discovery channel reality TV the lowest form of entertainment. It’s not cool its just moronic.

Two facts: 1)the combatants are not professional fighters 2)the combatants have more athletic ability and intestinal fortitude than 99% of the tough guys posting on this thread
