Hello All,
I run a new Roots & Shoots group on my Oceanside campus. Recently there has been lots of controversy over the coyotes that live in the local area. As the human population increases and more and more land is taken for development, these coyotes are forced to look for food in the form of residents' pets. There are many residents who want these coyotes killed. This is not the answer. I feel this is a call for action; however, I am struggling to think of what we (as a R&S group) could do to save the coyotes from being killed and keep local pets from becoming coyote food. PLEASE..if you have any ideas at all...we could use the input! Thanks!

I think if you educate the public about coyotes it will help alleviate fears that they will attack small children. Remind people that cats are meant to be kept indoors always as they kill many songbirds. Also tell people that they must not let small dogs run loose or leave them alone outdoors. Good PR for the coyotes can be that they reduce the rabbit and rodent population. Perhaps a sanctuary or nature preserve can be established. Good luck to you! Cool
