The Duggars never turn down an opportunity to help others, especially when children are involved. Jim Bob and the kids participate in the Run for a Child race, but when Jim Bob decides to run in blue jeans, will he be able to cross the finish line?
'Splain me this...Shorts are verboten even for boys and wearing those little shorts would be the female Duggar equivalent of butt-less chaps but they can't run otherwise...I really want to see how they work this one.

I just thought of something else. I'm wondering if the hairspray will hold up after a good run? Will JB's hair fall out of place, or will this be super hold double hair spray type of day? I guess we'll have to stay tuned...

the girls would have to wear their regular clothes, because they would never be "permitted" to participate since somehow running is probably seen as immoddest for girls.
Muslim websites sell sports wear including track suits that conform to the modesty standards of the religion, and those standards are stricter than the Duggars standards. If muslim men and women can find appropriate sportswear, including head coverings, then there really is no reason the Duggars should run a race in street clothes. Are the kids going to run in flip flops and crocs?
I don't understand why they cannot wear "gouchos" they have been popular the past few summers. Here is a link to what I am talking about. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/...646180002&tid=onfr1r They come past the knee and are flared out quite a bit. To me they are modest and the girls could still do things that you couldn't or wouldn't do in a dress.
Is this going to be a modest, fundies only race or are the Duggars going to be surrounded by what they would consider to be NIKE moments? Women in tight racing leggings, shorts, sports tops that may show midriff, and men running shirtless? Maybe the camera men will ask the Duggar girls to rate the modesty of how the other race participants are dressed like they did at the bridal shop.
And who wants to bet that JB will be wearing that way to often worn red polo with white stripes. you know...the one he wore to DC, and the water slide video, and in the picture at the top of this forum.
JB wore jeans! I thought it was a little comical the way they did the whole commentary on his run. Their rule is to have the thigh covered, so I don't know why he couldn't have gotten a pair of sweat pants! It was also funny he seemed so shocked that there were actually a lot of people there at 7 am! I think that hour is really unfamiliar to them.
I didn't see any Nike yelling, but a few looks at everyone else in shorts. They acknowledged sticking out like sore thumbs!
I thought it was interesting in the question and answer episode that Jim Bob explained their clothing choices by saying they wanted to focus on the countenance rather than the body. Then the family shows up at the race wearing long pants and skirts. So much for focusing on countenance.
And it really was not too bright of Jim Bob to do that run without any prior runs to increase his stamina. I thought he was going to pass out.
yeah, that really surprised me that he hadn't done any training. I know they "try to buy used and save the difference", but it wouldn't have hurt to get a decent pair of running shoes..for him or the chilren. I almost fell off my chair when he showed his shoe and said talked about a blowout on the side. He comes across fairly personable, but he doesn't appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed.
I personally think that the shorts rule is ridiculous. But look at it from the girls point of view. If the girls cant wear shorter skirts when its hot out, then isn't it fair that the boys can't wear shorter pants(shorts) when its hot out?
If JB let the boys where shorts, then this thread would be about, why can't the girls get any relief from the heat or why can't the girls wear something easier to run in.

I think this just shows how out of touch with reality they truly are. All of us know that there are knee-length shorts and that the vast majority of people train before running in something like this. It is kind of naive to think that you can just do it without any prep and in jeans...

Reality is different things to different people. It doesn't make them wrong, just different.

I have to give JB credit, he finished the race even though he was hurting. I'll tip my hat to that perseverence.
I did wonder why the boys didn't just wear athletic pants. Seemed as though they were just asking to make things harder by wearing jeans. I certainly wouldn't wear jeans for a run, not unless it was something like running for my life.
With respect to the girls, someone here mentioned Islamic running outfits, and I think that that would be a great way to go. But I think that the Duggars get caught up on gender-stereotypical clothes and don't even think of other ways of being modest. So the girls are always relegated to wearing skirts.

And for a father of almost 19 children to run a race without prior training for it is just plain stupid.
And, Michelle got to start all the races with her bull horn. I assume they all paid to participate, since that's how the charity makes money. And, I wonder if the whole shabang had to wait for the Duggars to show up? I know they were late, right?
This was an awkwardly embarrasing episode for this family. If you are going to participate in some type of road race/walk...train and wear appropriate clothing. JB truly made an embarrassment of his family. Don't agree to participate in physical activities if you are not willing to be prepeared. How awful for he (who looked so stupid) and his innocent children.
What I thought was stupid about this episode was when Michelle stood there with the bullhorn and then said, "Here I am , 3 months pregnant, with all these runners !"
1-what is that even supposed to mean ? 2-Michelle, I assure you, no one here cares that you are pregnant. They are about to run a fun race for a worthy cause. It's not about you all of the time.

That's probably why she announced it-- to try and make it about her. Or she was feeling self-conscious standing in front of all of those skinny young women and she wanted to make an excuse for her appearance.
I never saw the end of the show...please, nobody tell me if JimBob finished the race. I refused to stay up until 10pm to see if JimBob could run a whole mile without stopping to catch his breath.

In some instances, reality is finite and we all know that.

I am pretty sure they would never opt for anything that had Islamic in the title either.
Funny thing is that he says that the boy normally wear pants, but sometimes shorter bottoms and they at least come past the knees. Why couldn't the boys worn basketball shorts that are typically longer or at least some sort of gym pants instead of jeans...
