They almost certainly went to an ATI event IE. learn to be a Godly women, submit better to husband/father and to be modest at all times. It was no pleasure trip or vacation.
How many times in the whole episode, did they say something in the area of "the older girls are gone, we actually have to do something"? Lots..
Michelle even said, The baby is crying and Im the only one here so I have to get her.
They definetly didnt want the girls answering the questions. I dont know why, because they would answer all questions in a roundabout way anyways.
They always pick the same questions to be answered.. and answer in the same way.
Q. Why do the girls wear skirts and do they have a choice?
A. Because the Bible says. If they had a choice they wouldnt wear pants, bc the Bible says.
Q. Why do you have so many kids? A. Because the Bible says, kids are a gift from God. "How many gifts do you need?? Isnt it better to give than to receive.. " Just kidding
Q. Do the kids ever fight. A. Yes but the Bible says that you should show your kids how to act, by acting that way yourself.
Q. Why don't you dance? A. Its temptation.. Jim Bob almost lost control answering this one.. hilarious.."Shaking their bu.. bodies.." haha
Everything is "the Bible says." The way they interpret the Bible is very.. um.. lets just say DIFFERENT. The pants rule is ridiculous, but thats a whole other thread.

Gotta love those Duggars.
It's all their interpretation, too. There isn't a passage in the Bible (not that I'm aware of) that says to not dance. Nor is there one that specifically mentions pants for boys and skirts for girls. Heck, pants weren't even around when the Bible was written.

Oh, there are plenty of references in the Bible to both dancing and singing. But like most, they pick and choose what passages they like, especially when it comes to the Old Testament.
That was just ridiculous. Dancing caouses inappropriate feelings, are these people so repressed seck-tually (spelled it that way cause i dont want it to go into mod land) that something as innocent and beautiful as dancing is banned, just because of the potential for inappropriate thoughts? Hello, self control?
I can understand the nasty dancing kids do in high school not being aloud, but whats wrong with a waltz or ballet? So silly to me.
I do find it to be very blind that such people will go on and on about the nakedness of a person's thigh, or how dancing causes darn-near lunacy so it's best not to do it at all, and yet the dangers of fanaticism aren't addressed.
I'd rather see a thigh or someone dance or a girl in pants than see someone go overboard with their beliefs.
Did anyone watch the Little Couple Tuesday, just before 18Kids? It was a repeat of the couple going to his brother's wedding. The young couple had their first dance as a married couple. It was so sweet. Too bad none of the Duggar kids will ever have that. PS: there was no shaking of their bu...bodies. And, no debauchery.
Very convenenient that the older girls were "at a retreat". And when the baby cried and Michelle had to go to her, it was because "I'm the only one here..."

Go here, it has some good points on the pants thing. The bottom of the page says:
And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. 1 Cor. 12:23
Rom 14:21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.
I think that a godly woman should take every precaution to dress in a way that does not cause her brother (in Christ)to be tempted with impure thoughts. If there is even a small chance that an outfit we choose to wear might cause another to sin then we should refrain from wearing it.

Yeah, I've been watching the Little Couple. I think they are so cute. They really love and respect each other and right now, have not let TV go to their heads. They are using this avenue to show the public that little people are normal people too and should be treated as such instead of freaks of nature. She's a doctor in a neonatal unit. Very smart and articulate. And he cares more for her health and well-being than reproducing. So, I have been very impressed with them so far.

Interesting.
I respect what you are saying, especially the way that you said it. If I may counter...
Michelle spoke a lot of teaching the little ones self-control. She referred to sitting still and being quiet, being patient. Why not extend the teaching of self-control to "impure" desires/thoughts/actions etc.? Men's minds work differently then women's minds do, especially when it comes to such topics (sorry for being vague, I'm trying to stay away from mod land). Teaching young adults that such thoughts are normal but should only be acted upon in a way that is congruent with one's religious/spiritual beliefs would make the men more responsible for their own actions, teach them self-control, and hopefully allow them to be more comfortable with any physical reactions they have.
I do feel that modesty is a great thing, but as with all other things, there is such a thing as going too far. Dressing in scuba suits to go swimming with your brothers is too far, imo. Restricting women to wearing skirts is too far, imo. Sorry to keep beating on this dead horse, but skirts are far less modest than pants. Try tying your shoe in a skirt as opposed to pants and you'll see what I mean.

I understand what you are saying. Im not sure you understand that I disagree with the pants rule. In the middle of the page on that link I posted it says something about the old Testament say that woman should not dress in mens clothing and vice-versa. Back then mens and womens clothing were both robes just mad in a different way. And the passage was meaning that men should not dress feminine and vice-versa.
In the new testament, it says that women should dress modestly, and not too decorated. Never does it say anything about pants not being modest. Once again, its all in the interpretation. Thats just what JB wanted and he interpreted it in that way and he fed the BS to his family.
And thats more of what I was getting at. Its funny that the Duggars always say its in the Bible but they can't explain it in a way that everybody understands. Its all in the way its interpreted it. But I have to disagree.
I just posted the passage that was at the bottom of the page bc, its what the Duggars could be saying, but aren't. Why? Im not sure.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was a great example of communicating and expressing thoughts and ideas on this board. Nothing was said disrespectfully towards each other and both parties shared thier ideas and then went on to clarify so that no one misunderstood where they were coming from.

That's why all the girls wear those worn out looking flip flops everywhere. And Michelle wears the "old lady" slip ons.

I just watched this episode. What a joke! JB & Michelle's answers to everything made no good sense. Especially about the girls not wearing pants and the no dancing rule. Wasn't it Michelle who was a cheerleader in her teens? So typical, so hypocritical. Michelle said she could find other things to do with her time than dancing. Well, what about people who dance for a living? Not everyone aspires to be a baby-making machine. Some people, like the Duggars, use their Christianity to try and justify every lame opinion and decision, and that's not being a good Christian if you ask me. Also, did any one notice how poorly Joy speaks? All slurry and bad grammar. And Michelle could hardly read or pronounce the word Massachusetts. How's that homeschooling workin' for ya, Ma? The best part about this episode was the fact that Michelle had to actually take care of her home and non-breastfeeding children. She seemed to be a little on-edge at times too. The part where JB talked about how hard it was when they only had 4 or 5 kids and they were all so little-implies and confirms, once more, that they want the older girls to be their slaves because they are now too old and too overwhelmed AND Michelle is too rusty (since she does little else than nursing and going to Weight Watcher meetings) to handle things as a parent should. Sometimes less is more, Duggars. Yes, less can be more, the Bible told me so!

The bible tells us to dance and be merry while we praise God with smiles on our faces and tears in our eyes.
The pants rule... I can kindof understand the efficiency of that because pants on girls specifically usually have to fit a certain way to be comfortable. With the different body types there may be among the girls and different sizes, a skirt is sort of a one size fits all thing with the exception of size. But I still don't like the Duggars at all.
The scuba suit thing is rediculous. They're the girls BROTHERS! That's incest, loves. Do they honestly have such low expectations of their children that they think they will lust after their own siblings?
