Do you think the Duggars are exploiting their children for fame and money? What are your thoughts on this? I personally don't understand why they want the whole world knowing about their lives.

I think that in the beginning, they did their specials to quell curiosity, and to perhaps promote their message.
But the day that the decided to have a full series, then in my opinion, they went to pimping themselves and their children. I'm sure the money was the motivator, and they probably figured that it wasn't going to impact their lives too much. But with respect to the show, they're as bad as Jon and Kate, pimping their lives and their family's life out.

I agree. The duggars are no better than Jon and Kate. They must make close to or as much as Jon and Kate made per episode, I wonder what the Duggars do with all the money they get from TLC since they are so cheap?

I think they are exploiting their children otherwise they would not have a show. And they continue to get pregnant to keep the series going. In the beginning with the specials, they would show more of what the kids actually do such as school work, practice on the violin/piano and things like that. A normal day in the life. They don't have that anymore.
Now, it's become just road trip after road trip and more of a focus on JB and Michelle - mainly JB with the kids running around like wild animals.
But it's all because they have 18 kids. Otherwise, TLC and that production company (whatever its name is) wouldn't be interested in them because that's the only thing that makes them stand out.

I think that if you compare them with the Gosselins and the Balloon Boy family, they look like saints. But it is only a matter of degrees. Yes, if they didn't show the kids, if the show was just Michelle and JimBob and Josh and Anna, there would be no show.

As far as comparing the Duggar's to Jon & Kate, I can say that the Duggar's do have some values where Jon & Kate don't appear to have any. However, that is the main difference between the 2 families. Both are pimping their families out to make money. Both have been bitten by the Hollywood bug with fame & fortune. The only thing going for Kate is that she does not continue to spew out baby after baby unlike Michelle so in many ways, they are equally twisted families. The fact that the Duggar's claim to be so "Christian" doesn't make up for the fact that they are just as pathetic as Jon & Kate but in a different way. The fact that they are "Christian" is no excuse to continue to make more babies for their older kids to raise. Michelle needs to resign herself to the fact that at 43, she's a GRANDMA and deal with that. Her baby making should have been over with a LONG time ago.

And I have no doubt it would have been if she didn't have those older girls to do all the child rearing/housekeeping for her. |

Of course it is exploitation...there is just no other term for it. I would say that the little ones will never know normalcy but then with that many children and their belief system, none of them really do.
Maybe I'm strange but I wouldn't put my children out there for public consumption for all the money in the world. There is no price tag for my children's safety and privacy.

The Duggars would not have a show if not for the shear amount of children they have. If not for the children, there would be no show, they are the reason for it. And because of the children, JB and Michelle have gained fame, perks, and money.

Isn't anyone there concerned about the safety of the kids? I mean, it isn't too hard to find the Duggar's address and phone number. No wonder they never go out alone. Is the loss of peace of mind worth the money?
