I would explore throught the jungles. I would like to see both but I would want to spend more time on the Amazon.
Most definately the Amazon. However, I found tonights show flaw with some of their information, for example when they where speaking of Candonble they associated with Voodo which is incorrect. The Yorubas slaves from Nigeria brought their tradition there, the person commited the error of saying Orrisas these divinities that the ones workship by the Yorubas, in Voodo you have mpungus and nkisis and those beliefs came to the new world from other parts of Africa, not Nigeria. Candomble is still practice in Brazil pretty much the same way that it is still done in Africa today. Other than that the show was great, and thanks for the ending it pull it all together, because there parts where corralations from segment to segment were not clear.
Beautiful show, made me homesick! I'm glad they got away from stereotypes, and showed life as it is for Brazilians. Wish they could make more episodes of each nation, truly a nice piece of work Discovery has done!
I agree with ugaboogaus... This show really made homesick! It was a great show that tied the people, culture, and landscape into a wonderful 2 hour feature! Sure that there is a lot more about Brazil than what was shown, but 2 hours is not enough to show our wonderful country. I had tears in my eyes at the end! Fortunatelly I am off to Brasil in 3 1/2 weeks! My husband and I will be spending a week in the the hart of the Amazon Forrest as well as some time in Fortaleza, Fernando de Noronha, and Sao Paulo. Truthfully, although I am from Sao Paulo, I much prefer the outdoors!
Hi Hijadeorishas, Leys or Lais...is from Ouro Preto or Oro Preto, I think this is just north of Rio.
I think Lais was one of the best characters in the show, I felt really bad for her, she stayed up until 3:00am to do her little presentation...then was up at 6:OOam the next day to be in the parade!...and her parents never showed up!...poor kid....thank goodness her grandma came out. She took it well though...i think she ends her segment by saying how she likes both her parents and gets along well with both of them...
The girl is Lais and the city is Ouro Preto. Ouro Preto is an UNESCO heritage monument. Extremely beautiful! It maintains one of the most well preserved Barroc architecture collection on earth. The holy week is a very good time to go. However, if you are ready for fun, carnaval is also a good choice. Really good, popular, and authentic street canaval. Very different from what goes on in Rio. If you go during the winter make sure you pack a coat. It is cold down there. The winter is all cultural with the city’s winter festival. Plays, music, dance, arts during the whole month of July. On top of this, lots of ecological attractions around: mountains, water falls, dirty road trips to small villages. It is definitely a better choice than the jumble. Pack your bags what are you waiting for.
