In hopes that Ms. Shirah reads this site, I would like to say that watching the show on John & James has really inspired my son! He is 7 years old with the same diagnosis and had the same surgeries as John back in August of last year. He is using his forearm crutches more often and since seeing how well your boys are doing, he feels he will be able to do better and eventually walk as good as John. It's amazing how resilient our kids can be! Thank you for sharing your story. My whole family, I'm a mother of 4, watched it together and now feel that we have a better understanding of this condition. (We taped it & it's a keeper) You are also my inspiration!

My prayers to you ms. shirah and your boys. I too have a grandson 7 years old that has CP. If you don't mind, could you please tell me how to get in touch with Dr. Martin? I feel it useless to do so as we won't be able to afford the cost, but I have at least to try and find out. I am almost sure that the surgery will help my grandson walk.Thank you so much.God bless you and the boys.ditas1955

I am a 33 year old woman with CP. I also have a daughter with multiple disabilities (due to a chromosome deletion), including CP, retardation, and feeding tube. She's nearly 10.
As a child, I went through much of what John and James have. I had each procedure separately and learned how to walk 4 times.
I now attend college. I will be a special education teacher.
The show brought back many painful memories for me. I relate, too, to the agony Ms. Shirah goes through when she pushes her sons to reach their potential. I admire her strength and determination. She reminds me of my own mom, as well as the kind of mom I strive to be for my daughter.

I too am interested in being a sponsor for James Shirah's special needs school. If Ms. Moore has any secure contact info or website set up for donations, please post it for Discovery subscribers. Thanks, and God bless Ms. Moore and her two beautiful boys.
