Oh, a big nit to pick with this episode: the German Type VII U-boat was said to have had four main propulsion engines, it in fact had only two. It was a small boat, about 750 tons displacement (think half the size of a Gato class boat) and only needed the two. Over all a very good show that gives a good view of submarine history and development and especially nice to see interviews and comments by experts like Gary Weir.

i thought that the show was quite well done also, but i have to admit, i was a bit surprised to see, or rather not to see either the los angeles class, or ohio class in the countdown, yet they put the seawolf in there. i guess that seems unusual to me.

I second crusty's comment. Not having the Los Angeles-class boats and most particularly, the Ohio-class boomers included in this list is just intellectually lazy. The Ohio boats are STILL the quietest submarines that ever put to sea! But then the internationalist liberal pukes at the Discovery Channel would have to admit that our country dominates submarine technology, as we do most all weapons systems, and that would glorify America. We can't have that, now can we?

I agree with crustyfister What about the 688s? I think the Los Angeles-class should have beat out the Seawolfs. Yes the Seawolf is quieter and better armed than some 688s however, there have only been 3 Seawolfs built. There were more than 80 Los Angeles-class submarines built. I think they should have been included in the Top-10 submarines of all time. If not at #1, then at least in the top 3.

liberal pukes at the Discovery Channel

I doubt that the Discovery Channel has much to do with the content of these shows- they are independently produced (read the credits), most in Canada but many in England.

Canada is basically a Socialist country, like California and our New England states, only more so. Just get hurt visiting Canada and then try to see a doctor (as a non-Canadian) if you don't believe me. So it's not too surprising that shows produced in Canada would be leaning a little to the left from time to time.

Personally, I give the Discovery folks high marks for even having The Military Channel (formerly Wings) at all. You sure as h*** wouldn't see this stuff on CNN, CBS, etc. They only cover Military events, people and hardware when something goes wrong. Horribly wrong. But there's not a peep out of any of the mainstream media showing everything that is SO RIGHT about our Military. Only The Military Channel does that.

I just wish I needed "natural male enhancement" so I could buy from their advertisers.... Cool
