I dont care for jesse much but I can tell he has a good side too. that was a good show but I dont understand why you didnt have the ground in view when jesse was shooting the machine gun in the helicopter. when someone's shooting a machine gun thats the best part to see is watching the bullets hit the area but all we could see was jesse and the wall of the helicopter. the hummer looked great though but it wouldve been better to actually hear that 502 motor when he was driving it down the road instead of that music that was playing.
thanks to our soldiers dead and alive for their sacrifice.
Marty, there a good chance that the guy with the camera was not going to let go of whatever he was holding on to. Chopper pilots have been known to show off when the "pacs" in the back are VIPs. I agree that the camera angle should of shown what was being shot at.
I really enjoyed the show on Jesse James. I would have really loved to see the vehicle work, but so goes things in Iraq. Just another instance of proof that the troops in Iraq dont have the equiptment that they need to accomplish the mission! I served in Iraq, proudly, I might add, During Operation Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. I also served in Afghanistan. Thigs would have gone better if they just had that one part! Would really have love to also see what the troops felt after they saw the finnished truck on display! Jesse has a reputation of getting things done when it counts and I know that it hurt to fail in front of the troops! I hope to see more celebraties take jessies stance and go to Iraq and be "real" with the troops! Airborne!
On one of the shows with Jesse, he say,s, I'll bet $500 no other car has done a wheelie in Iraq. Probably true, but I doubt with all thats going on over there they really care if a car can stand up. Iguess he's doing some good, but he say's he wants to help. Join the Army.
Well he was right about one thing. As of yet a car still has not done a wheelie in Iraq. I know Jesse meant well. But come on folks, how hard would it have been for him to make sure that the entire project was not screwed up by some stupid mistake? There must have been thousands of mechanics sitting at home watching that episode saying " you forgot the what?" Discovery Channel knew it was a failure but they hyped it up all week showing the hummer doing a wheel stand on a desert road. Nice trick people you fooled us with that one. You lead us to believe that they were really going to accomplish the mission. Then to see those poor people let down like that. What a shame. But hey ... They got those commercials in didn’t they? They got their money. Maybe they broke even on the deal? But to go all that way to let them fail? Those poor men and women over their have enough to worry about and enough failure in their lives already without being set up for some more. They live with the fact that any day could be their last. And they do it all for pennies. You should have just made the episode about them. It’s not bad enough that the system and their own government has let them down and left them in harms way? Now the Discovery Channel has to travel all the way over there to rub it in their faces? If this had been Monster Garage then no problem. But these people don’t get to walk away and go home. Get a clue and wise up. Don’t use our military men and women to line your pockets with commercial advertising dollars and then sell it to us like some patriotic BS. The people that put this together should be ashamed of themselves and in my opinion they owe those poor folks who lay their lives on the line a HUGE apology. And for Jesse to say "I came all the way over here on my dime, that’s got to count for something." Come on, He went over and he came back. And they protected him the entire time. THEY PROTECTED HIM. And the Discovery Channel let everyone down with this one. And if I am not mistaken, those bullets Jesse was shooting up and the fuel and the food and the personnel and the security and even the hummer that was provided was paid for by American tax payers. I can not believe that some fool thought it would be a good idea to pump this show up like they did all week knowing that it was going to show those poor kids feeling like failures. That was sick of you to do that. And I mean sick as in not good. Savor the Flavor guys, you won’t sucker me again like that. I’m glad Jesse had a good time and feels he made a contribution to something but anything worth doing is worth doing right. Go Back and FINISH the job. And then air that episode. Jesse got to come home and those poor soldiers had to wake up the next day and still be there. I know they will say, nobody failed and every ones a winner, and it’s the effort that counts and bla bla bla bla, but it was still a failed attempt at something they had all be looking forward to. I can only imagine how important it was for them to be able to finish that project with Jesse. Sometimes it takes more that a bad boy attitude and lots of money to make things happen. Glad Jesse got to play with some toys and shake some hands but to sell that episode to the American people like that and then leave them empty at the end of it was a joke. I lost tons of respect for the credibility of this channel tonight. What a shame. I wont ever watch another Jesse James production.
Odd how people can see the same thing and get two completely different perspectives. It would of been easy to edit in a successful build with the Gorilla grinning whilst doing the wheelie. Jesse didn't go there with a Filipino Band to have the troops ogle dancing girls, (Old school USO stuff). He offered them a change in their hot, dusty, stressful life, only doing what he knows how to do. The failure of a part, or someones misstep, to me, adds to said "credibility".
I'm sure there are lots of people that wish it was that easy. I am not trying to run down Jesse James. I think any time people can afford to drop everything and finance a trip like that to spend time with the troops as a reward for their sacrifice is a great thing. But other than spending time with Jesse, what other reward was there? All the work they had to put aside for the ten days he was there still had to get done. So either they had to work even harder when he left or other people were taking up the slack. The "credibility" would have been in just going over there and doing your thing for the troops and keeping it to yourself. If it was something he just wanted to do for them then why feel the need to film it and sell it. They tried to make it into something it wasn’t. That’s all I'm saying. Not hyping it and just doing it for the sake of doing it. And if it is not "old school USO stuff" then why make it a two hour television event? I still think that the commercial hype was bad form and in bad taste. That is all I'm going to say about this topic.
I'll agree that the promo with a humvee doing a wheelie was very misleading and as you say in "bad taste". Jesse James is a businessman, of course he was looking to turn a profit. It seems that he has put out a rather hot product. It's a shame he can't get some bunnies in go-go boots to add a real flavor to rebuilding a hummer. I'm sitting back thinking about USO shows that I've been to, a long time ago in a place far away, it's a shame that our boys can't enjoy the same sort of stuff we were able to. Times change and I ramble, sorry.
I don't think most people "get it". This show wasn't about Jesse James' personality, ground shots from the helicopter, or wheelies. It was about the SOLDIERS. They are risking their lives for our country and they deserve every moment of happiness they can find while they are in that hot, dusty, and dangerous place. Thanks Discovery Channel and Jesse James for putting smiles on their faces and ours.
The reality is that Jesse kept the US Gov HMMWV and has failed to return it after many requests from the US Army for return of its property. It was sent back to the states to be repaired-bad transmission-but after the Army came to pick it up, Jesse threw a tantrum and declared it was his-an embarrasment- Also- none of the soldiers or Airmenn that built the vehicle ever received anything for the project. The unit was left a few welders and a welding helments because there was no way to bring it back to Long beach- but the guys were promised tool kits and they were never sent to them. There is so much to this story- it would blow your minds-the fact that Jesse launched a line of toys based on a vehicle that he kept-unbelievable...it goes on and on.
