yes - WEAPONS MASTERS - EXCELLENT SHOW. i remember seeing it on discovery in jan sometime. KATANA SWORD i think...filmed in japan. looks like weapons masters will be on sunday nights for awhile. seems like lots of good action. weapons expert MIKE LOADES is awesome, does his own action and really knows his stuff. checked upcoming shows -looking forward to DUELING PISTOLS, CHARIOT BOW, ROCKETS & GREEK FIRE.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED WEAPON MASTERS! The show was both interesting and entertaining, with an upbeat energy. I found the host/engineer (Chad, I believe) to be its major appeal. He is a truly unique character, brilliant with his inventions, and very funny. I am usually not a big fan of weapon shows. However, Weapon Masters and its host, the "mad scientist", kept me so curious and entertained that I now look forward to the next shows. I would be interested in watching any other TV show Chad may have been on in the past.
I've just watched the whole season here in the UK and I found it excellent. This is the only series on Discovery that I have put on series record. It's hard to find a show that I learnt so much from and still made me laugh out loud at the absurdity of some of the things they build (yet amazingly work!). Even something as simple as a blowpipe is fascinating in this programme, so imagine what they do with Greek Fire I hope there is a second season planned.
i just watched the pistol show -- i did not think it was as good as the last one, but still good (two friends at my house loved it). we all think chad could use a wardrobe or makeup assistant. also, why is this on the military channel? it doesnt have anything to do with the military. it would be better fit on the history channel.
I would like to see them do a story on the longsword. Dispell all the myths about it being heavy, blunt, and useless compared to the katana, and show how superior a sword it was on the battlefield.
I think Weapon Masters is a show on par with Mythbusters and Mike Loades is a brillant force of nature. He's in another league than the usual cardboard fake tv hosts. He can ride a horse full speed while shooting things and articulately explain things in an entertaining way. He seems like he actually knows what he's talking about. It's finally a quality, original show that's got everything...real action, invention, original humor, history, weapons, travel and science. I do think this show is would be more of a natural fit on Discovery.
One annoying thing on comcast cable for the past two weeks is that it's not even listing the show properly when you read the cable menu -Sunday at 9pm - it's listed as 'to be announced'. Please re-air this series on Discovery!. Thanks.
I've seen a couple of episodes and think they're mostly great. A bunch of friends watched that show about the Chariot Bow and we loved the bits about figuring out what to build for the challenge -- especially where the crazy bearded host Chad and his friend Tim go around together, cuz they play off each other so well. Tim is like a straightman or foil to Chad's antics, and he seems to keep things undercontrol in the shop and when they visit experts (but with a laugh), so Chad can go off and be weird and amusing. (Plus we noticed in the credits that the Tim guy's name is Tim Makepeace, which, if it's really his name, is pretty funny, considering...) They all really look like they're having a good time, and the British weapons guy does too (though there may have been a bit too much history, that part kinda dragged.) I think this could be on the main Discovery Channel too, since it's such a mix of things, not hard-core military.
VERY COOL SHOW! Chad is a total riot, obviously a crazed genius. I sort of wish they had that Makepeace guy around a bit more to give Chad someone to play off of regarding the engineering issues, which are actually quite interesting and entertaining, a la "This Old House" or "Antiques Roadshow" or "Mythbusters". The show seems to be reaching a little too hard for "entertainment values"... if they let the scientific explanations carry it more, I think the audience might actually be a bit bigger... just my two cents... Hope they let this show grow and develop. I think it could turn into something quite interesting. Let the weapons history dude hit us with a few more maps/charts/animations to explain the history aspect of it, then leave Chad and Makepeace to do the engineering, that way it wouldn't feel like history dude is so out of place in the hands-on, erector-set stuff.
Originally posted by amakjuat: Great show but Chad is the most annoying co-host in history. Tune it down. You're crossing the line between funny and stupid.
As I read thru the posts on this thread I wondered why no one had the same opinion of that chad until I read your post. I don't find him funny at all, I really think of him as a jerk, a sloppy dangerous jerk! I do like Mike Loades, I found him interesting & informative, not an irritating distraction like that chad. I like the show, but think it would be so much better without that chad person!
Excellent mix of history/fact,science/engineering, entertainment and carnage. I totally agree....hey Discovery; "KEEP ON MAKIN' MORE EPISODES!!!" Chad you & Mike do a kick job. Certainly glad I have a DVR. I am eagerly awaiting what is to come.
