i only caught the end of the show, but one thing irked me. whatshisname said B-52's fly at over 50,000 feet, out of the range of SAM's. what the hell? how can he say that with a straight face?
I almost missed it, but the show referred to the top 10 weapons in the last "60 years," which puts the A-Bomb just outside that parameter. No disagreeing that that would be #1, hands down. If you want to go "of all time" the invention of Gunpower has to be up there. As far as the list went, a lot of things could maybe go up/down a notch but the biggest surprise for me was the AK-47 only being down at #7
Of course it's the Nimitz class Aircraft Carrier. They are always the first asset on station. The only thing that bugs me is that nobody ever talks about the AEGIS class ships that are never far away from the Carrier that provide its real defense and the Tomahawk missiles that they carry pack a pretty nice punch as well.
I just watched the show again and caught yet another phrase that I missed the first (or second?)time I saw it.
Re: thebostondangler's post about the B-52 flying at over 50,000 feet, he said it was out of range of MOST SAM's. Don't know how true this is either, but I recall seeing a lot of film footage of the 52 falling out of the skies over Vietnam.
Also, on my own post of 10-10-07, I caught a typo. Probably everyone caught it, but the "Gunpower" should have read "Gunpowder."

50K ft. and SAMs. Sure if you are talking 3rd world countries. Remeber a lot of places still fire unguided rockets. I'm sure Afghanastan and Iraq no longer have missiles that can reach that altitude. Russia, China, North Korea they do. Iran probably does too.
