Well i have seen new mil-channel show special forces manhunt. Its basicly about UK special-op operative who sets on a simulated mission while the other special-op veterans are trying to catch him.

First mission - Simulated mission in "Siberia-Russia". In this episode our hero sets on a simulated mission in a Siberia, but i have alot of trouble believing that they were even in europe, much less russian territory.

Problem 1: Why would russian government allow 5 foreign special-ops armed with the latest gadgets to run free inside their country?

I mean seriously, would USA allow a spets-naz team, armed to the teeth, to perform a simulated mission inside the country with almost no surveilance?

Problem 2: Both teams were tracked via GPS sattelite. Again, why would russian government allow american military GPS tracking in the middle of their own country?

Problem 3: Siberia is not mostly tundra as was shown in the show, its taiga, a heavily wooded forest. The environment that was shown on-screen was more akin to alaska or canada

Problem 4: We see american special-op squad walking through "allegedly" russian town while branishing m-16s. Seriously, do you find THAT even remotely feasible?

Hell, even in NYC, you walk around with assault weapon and people will turn heads, all of them.

Do you really want me to believe that 4 foreigners, speaking english, carrying m-16s would walk through russian town and no-one would notice? or care?

Problem 5: I never actually heard anyone speak any language but english.

So to debunk this episode - it was filmed in alaska or at most canada. The scene with MIL helicopter was dubious at best. We never actually see any of the ops' faces AND helicopter in the same scene. We only see MIL chopper landing and taking off. We only see any of the actual faces while inside the heli - which means just about anything. A set can be disguised as a heli cabin.

Second mission - simulated mission in South America. Well, i found this one to be more believable due to the environment, but then again, i was never been in S. America and the only environment i know of is from what i have seen on tv. So again, this is very subjective form, but the show could have been filmed in puerto rico (51st state) or everglades.

Third mission - simulated mission to Africa. Ok, now there i found several BIG errors:

1st - we never see the local wild-life AND faces in same shots. We see crocs and elephants in completely isolated shots which makes me think that those were cut-pasted from some nature show.

2nd - i never really heard locals talk. I may have heard few words here and there, but i NEVER really heard any language being spoken than english.

3rd - national soliders of botswana looked too much like regular american troops or even extras. The reason that they were all black does not mean that the ep. was filmed in africa.

4th - again, wildlife, looks too much like that of american mid-west and i mean flora here. and i never did see any fauna except for 2 cut-out scenes will elephants and a croc.

So, to make the last statement: FAKE!!!!

Hi
Unfortunately you're completely wrong. As the director of the show I can tell you that we shipped two and a half tonnes of filming equipment across the world, from Khatanga in Siberia, to Honduras and Botswana.
We did get approval from the Russian goverment for the guns and the GPS tracking equipment (though it wasn't military spec). It was completely real.
As for the African episode, the soliders were from the BDF (Botswana Defence Force) and all the footage was taken during filming.
As you can imagine there are some extraordinary stories to tell from filming the series, including hippo attacks, bases burning down, Chris nearly dieing from the cold etc.
I hope that puts your mind to rest

may i ask in what area of siberia and what town you were in? Why i never heard anyone actually speaking russian during the whole sketch.

From what branch did you get the approval and did you enter russian territory from eastern or western direction?

After so many so-called reality shows on Discovery and NGC were debunked as fake - i take every reality show on any tv network with a huge grain of salt and high level of suspicion.

I never been to africa or s. america, so i cannot argue with a safe heart about terrain and environment or demographics there.

However, i am russian and HAVE been living in pre and post CCCP era there for 13 years and unless something radicly changed in society as whole, i tend to notice the differences between how people behaved in real life vs how people behave on american tv show.

I also know environment, plant life in particular and again i see many objective differences between your sketch and actual facts.

Forget the argument ! Just make some more shows Smile That is some cool stuff. Maybe mix up the crew or get another rabbit to chase if it is too taxing for this one guy.

Nothing beats the look on the team leaders face when agent is jumping through the water to get on that boat. Priceless !!

honestly, if that was a real situation and i was the team leader, i'd just lay down barrage of automatic fire, but thats 'russian' way of doing thing Wink

Hi
We were in Khatanga in Siberia, 200 miles or so inside the artic circle. We got permission from the authorities as the weapons were considered 'props'. Of course they were de-commissioned. As for carrying the guns about, you have to remember it was around -40 degrees throughout the filming so it wasn't that there were many police around to make a fuss. We had more trouble bringing in the thermal cameras as they were considered military hardware.
I have to say it was one of the toughest and grimest places I've ever been.
The helicopter used in the Siberian episode was a search and rescue helicopter from the town. Check out http://www.thepoles.com/expguide/checkpointarcticocean.htm it actually has the helcopter in the photo.

Dom...This is well behind all the rest of the comments, but 'Well Done' on the Manhunt series. I'm enjoying its reruns, and just wish you could have continued. Perhaps one day you will, notwithstanding the crew having gone on about their lives...
Great use of technology!
On the Africa show I couldn't help wonder why Chris didn't bail earlier in the morning (~4am), before the Hunter Force came back to life, and allow himself a better shot at escape. Once the helicopter went up it was all over.
Well done to all hands!
