Hello, my daughter is 9 years old and has dwarfism and is reaching the stage where she is thinking she is "the only one in the world with dwarfism". We cannot find any local meetings and do not know of anyone else in our area with dwarfism for my daughter to associate with. We are in the North Texas area and any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Laura

I live in North Texas too and there are no local meetings. The only thing I know about is the little people of america but there is no local groups. But if you log onto Little People of America, they have chat room and discussions. That might help her? http://www.lpaonline.org

Sadly, that seems to be a common problem with LPs - not enough of them in close proximity to each other. I live in the Bay Area of northern CA. There's a chapter of LPA here. Through the years I found the meetings sometime too far from where I live to attend with my daughters. The conventions (I've never attended one) can be expensive as they occur all around the U.S.

I wish there was an on-line community for LP's to connect with each other. Maybe there is one on the LPA site, I haven't checked. Because the internet is accessible to many, it seems a likely place to allow virtual friendships and support groups to flourish.

If your daughter is internet capable, and you would allow, my special little adult daughters would be happy to befriend your daughter via email. It's a start. But, too, check out the LPA site - newer and greater things may be happening there these days.

Sincerely - dthomastlc
