My apologies if this has been answered before but I have always been curious as to the appropriate position to take when communicating with a little person.

As it's easier to communicate with someone at eye level (no matter what your size), I don't know if it's appropriate to kneel, back up to allow for better eye contact or try to sit when speaking with a little person. Of course I know everyone is different in their own personal preferences, but I would to know what is most commonly acceptable or the most courteous thing to do.

Thanks in advance.

I shared your question with my daughter, 23 today
~*'"'*~ Happy Birthday to her ~*'"'*~.
and she said she prefers that people try to be as close to eye level with her, if possible, by sitting in a chair while she stands or sits herself.

My observation is that if it's not too uncomfortable, that persons who lower themselves a bit appear more considerate and thoughtful of my daughters' short stature.

It looks so tiring and uncomfortable when my daughters are forced to look up during an entire conversation. Poor darlings.

You know, I don't know if I know any little people, other than my incredible shrinking wife (5 foot... was 5'1" two years ago), and my friend Bianca, who's 4'10").

I'm lazy and like to sit, so I'd be a perfect conversation companion.

i'm 18 years old and i'm a little person, and personally, i would rather them not communicate with me at eye level. i just don't feel comfortable with it, and i want others to treat me how they would treat any other person. but ya, everyone has different opinions, and that's just mine.

Just curious, lilkam, how tall are you? I've had no experience with this matter myself, as I'm considered taller than average, but my daughters' are much shorter than most achondroplasia dwarfs (I'm speaking in general terms as I'm not aware of your condition).

Also, my daughters’ voices have a different tone/pitch due to their vocal cord size. I see people struggling to hear them and my daughters in kind, struggling to be heard. Sometimes they (my daughters) seem to be just bidding their time while a group of tall people chatter face to face, above them.

i'm 4 feet tall. oh, i see, that explains a lot. i have achondroplasia so i'm probably taller than your daughters. i guess it just depends on how tall you are.
