I JUST WANT TO SAY I LOVE THIS SHOW . I AM A 36 YEAR OLD WOMEN THAT STANDS 4 FT 10 INCHES TALL . ALTHOUGH IM NOT A DWAF , JUST A VERY SHORT PERSON I RELATE TO SOME OF THE FEELINGS THE ROLOFFS HAVE . I AM FOREVER BEING REMINDED OF MY SHORT STATURE BY ADULTS AND CHILDREN ALIKE . DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES AN ADULT HAS SAID TO ME "WOW YOUR SHORT " . I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD "YOUR JUST A MIDGET " . DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE MY SIZE I CONSIDER MYSELF A FOREVER CHILD SINCE MOST OF THE TIME PEOPLE MISTAKE ME FOR ONE ANYWAY . I DONT MIND WHEN KIDS ASK ME WHY IM SO SHORT BUT WHATS UP WITH ADULTS , THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER . I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD JUST ACCEPT PEOPLE FOR WHO THEY ARE .THIS SHOW HAS GIVEN ME A NEW OUTLOOK ON LIFE . WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF DOING WHAT EVER WE WANT , EVEN IF IT IS A DIFFERENT WAY OF DOING IT . THANKS TO THE ROLOFF FAMILY

Well said fitmum..I know many people that are dwarfs who are lawyers, doctors and teachers. The people who make derogatory comments are the ones who have the problem. You are a person first. If you put yourself accross as a person then people soon see past the height and even (as I have found) have so much respect for doing the everyday things that 'average height' people take for granted. A bit about my life as a dwarf

SHE WAS LOOKING AT ME THE WHOLE TIME AND WHEN SHE WAS DONE SPEAKING SHE SAID OH MY GOD YOUR AN ADULT ! I WAS STARING AT YOU BECAUSE I WAS WONDERING WHEN I GOT A NEW KID IN MY CLASS . LIKE I SAID FOREVER A CHILD LOL

I'm 5'2", and I have difficulties in grocery stores, and in my kitchen. The counter isn't a problem, but I can't reach anything on shelves - I just find a nice, and taller, person to get what I need. Hey, it gives me the opportunity to meet someone new!

Mistermuscles, who is your comment directed to? I am confused.....
I didn't see anything malicious above...but maybe I missed it? I think that the point that the poster was trying to make was that short people also have troubles too. Yes, we do not have the actual medical aspect, but I can NEVER find clothes that fit me, nor can I reach anyting in stores, I swear they engineer those things for people over 6'.
Also, I wanted to add that a dwarf lives in my building who can bench press more than my bulky fiance. He also plays a mean game of squash, and although he is little, I hope that I never find him angry. ;0) He could seriously stand up for himself! :0)

It is definitely hard to function in the "real world" being under average height. I myself am 5'4" and am the shortest in my family (except for my mother). I had two operations for scoliosis when I was 14 years old, which pretty much put any chance of growing to a quick stop. When you have to use stepstools, chairs, ladders, etc to try to reach something that "normal" height people can grab without giving a second thought, it's tough. But, you know what, don't feel sorry for yourself. You cannot help what seems to be meant to be. I've had to adjust to my physical handicaps - and yes, I basically am physcially handicapped - just ask the rods, bars, and screws in my back. It's rough, but you adjust.
It seems like in order to survive in this world, you can't sweat the small things in life, like not being able to reach the highest shelf, or standing out in a photo because of your stature. Appreciate the fact that you can do the small things in life, like reach anything on a shelf or being able to pose in a picture. I've learned not to feel sorry for myself - because I figure life could be a whole lot worse. If you can't rely on your height, rely on your strengths, both mental and physical.

Maybe mistermuscles deleted his entry. I dunno.
Any~who, I'm 5'5" and I feel like if I was maybe two inches taller I'd be happy. But I know I should be thankful for the height I DO have. I have to rely on stools, chairs, etc. to get things out of the top cabinets and it drives me nuts!

I'm 5'3 and my sister is 4' 10. I know how Little People must feel at times when I am around "Average" sized people.
It's gotten to the point where I am so tired of size being an issue that I just dont care anymore.
Maybe it's maturity- i dont know- but at 43 years old now, I am more impressed with a person's very personality and soul-- their character, wether they are 1' tall , or 18' tall.
When I was younger I was so bent out of shape that i was only 5'3 when all the girls in gym class had long legs and stood taller than 5'5.
Isnt it funny how childish that thinking is nowadays?

Yeh. I wish i could somehow change the world so it wouldnt be so fixed on appearance. Not everybody bases things on looks, but quite a bit of people do and I hate it. It is predujice to judge someone based on outward appearance.

Sorry, lovejeff! I've been bigger all my life, chubby cheekies and all. If people told me when I was little that I looked anorexic, I would have to have gone through some C.P.A. state~of~ny~enduced~therapy. Where I live if anything looks wrong and school admin's notice, you get help right away.

R U responding to me? If so, what I meant was...if for some reason anyone got dangerously thin, or big for that matter, someone at school would have noticed and probably sent him/her to the counselor's office to see why he/she was so thin/big. You know, like if you notice someone has changed and you're concerned about them....that's how it was in school. Lucky for me I've accepted my looks (and my boyfriend has too...he likes my chubby cheekies!) but a lot of youngsters try to get model~thin.
Just a few years ago some freshman at my old school was sent for therapy because she was taking dexatrim or w/e pills @ lunch instead of eating. My sis has a friend (both seniors now) who suffered an eating disorder after her mother re-married.

...oh, to be a kid again! I had my "teen star" crushes @ that age. Now being an adult and having a real~life boyfriend is WAAAAAY better than anything I EVER imagined. You get to live those dreams...for real! Really plan a wedding, really have someone there to hold you in times of pain, really be there for you as your best friend. But I think everyone goes through that stage, the "what if..." hopeful one.

I'm only 4'11 and not a dwarf, so I know what fitmom36 is talking about. I'm the smallest in my family, but the second oldest. I'm also in my 30's. I've been teased about my height, being called very cruel names. When I went to school I was always the smallest in my class, regardless of how many people were in my school. I never really saw anybody else my size. I'm not a dwarf, but sometimes I just couldn't understand why God made me small, until my mother reminded me of the old saying, "great things always come in small packages." I enjoy watching the show, because I can relate to what they are going through, even though I may not have the medical problems of a dwarf. The upside is that I can wear teen clothes and look hip. I hardly can find anything adult that isn't too expensive. I just wish my feet weren't so big. (I wear a size 7.LOL)

Yeah I'm 4'10-ish with the face of a 13 yr old and i just graduated from high school...people never believe me when they see me and i tell them...
the funny thing is my boyfriend is 6 ft...it's definitely gonna be interesting...
but i definitely love this show cause i can relate to it, even though im not a dwarf...one of my nicknames in hs was "Little Sarah"...i was the shortest person in the school up until senior year when someone shorter came in as a freshman, and even though i have 2 younger sibs, im gonna be the shortest one in my family. sometimes its frustrating but, partly(if not mostly)because of this show, i'm slowly learning to deal with it.

I'm 5'3" and even i get told "Geee, your'e short!" by rude people here and there.
One supervisor I had even made a point to tell me this the day I went to work in flat heeled shoes. She wasnt much taller so I don't know what her problem was!
Why are people so hung up on the fact someone else isnt 5'9 like they are,... yeeesh!!!

This is a great topic. I can only imagine what it must feel like to be shorter than I am...and I am short. I am almost 5'1" and that has its issues but because, as most, you get use to it you adapt and don't always think about it. Until some situations that is. I hate having to ask for help to get something off the shelf at the store and having to have another woman who is taller than I am reach up and get it so easily. (I know that sounds funny, but I would prefer a taller guy get it for me...). When I was younger I had nick-names such as "Tiny Tina" "Thumbalina" "Tinkerbelle" etc., because of being small. Ah well...now the clothes thing is what gets me. I hate the fact that buying pants is such an issue cause, don't ya know, if you are petite you must also be a size 2?! (gotta luv it) Anyway, good thread...

I know the feeling of not being able to reach something from being short. I am not a LP but I am only 5" and I have a 50% curve in my spine and they tell me that over time I could end up even shorter. Now to tell the truth my Dr's office tells me I am now 4"11 but I am still about a inch taller then my mom and she is 4"11 so I don't think my Dr's office is right. The other day while shopping I could not reach something in the frozenfood and had to ask some lady that was 6" for help,(she told me how tall she is). I felt so silly asking all because I had lost my husband somewhere in the store. LOL So I can really feel for LP when it comes to things like that, You know like climbing on the counter in the kitchen to get something or getting a chair things like that when my husband or sons are not home to help me. LOL
Have a Very Blessed Day Everyone.

Don't you just hate that pants are made for average people and when you buy a pair and they fit and they end up too long? Even if I end up with pants for teens, the length sometimes is just too long. I'd cut them and hem them, but it's just such a hassle and I hate to roll them up. Like Matt said in an episode about how life is made for an average person of average height. (when I mean average height it's people who are tall or average height. Not little people or people like me, if that makes sense)

Oh hate when that happens with the pants, I always have to ask if they have anymore of the pants marked short and they always tell me the same thing everywhere I go, ( we only get about 5 pairs of those ones and they go fast) So I always end up with the ones marked medium. I just always have to make sure I wear my something on my feet or they will be almost to my toes. LOL.

I must admit that is the one thing I find difficult being a dwarf....CLOTHES!! Shirts and tops not too bad but trousers.. aaggh.. I have a 28/29 inch waist and have to have them not only shortened but also 'tapered' so they are not so wide at the bottom that they cover my shoes.. and shoes I have to get specially made and can (in the UK) only have one pair a year!!! The one + factor is that in the UK the kids clothes that I buy are exempt from VAT (value added tax) and are quite a bit cheaper esp on 'designer labels'. Rich Does my bum look big in these?

Hey Rich, are you talking about the 5th picture? If so, I think those look just fine and nope, it doesn't make your "bum" look big...lol...even though I can't really see your "bum" in the pic. I was wondering how difficult it is for LP's to buy clothing, knowing full well how difficult it is just being the height I am. Do you think buying clothes in the UK or US is easier for LP's?
In any case....I'm thinking I need a sewing machine - it would really help. Oh, and knowing how to use it right would be helpful too!

Not heard that one...thanks! One person in this community said that in some of my pics I look a bit like a young Travolta! Back to the subject of clothes..I heard that Levis did a personalised service. You can send them your measurements and they cut a pair of jeans for you then whenever you need a pair in the future you just order using your unique number. I heard that this service is expensive but surely other companies could do this. Afterall they would use less material and I am sure that many 'average height people' find that some jean lenghts are just a little too long too. There are quite a few 'online stores' particularly in the US that do Tshirts, hoodies etc but many of the designs have 'dwarf based designs' such as "Dwarf and proud" It would be good for major designers to do fashionable 'adult' shirts and tops. Again like the jeans it would only be a case of shorter arms and body length of shirt so you don't have to tuck in yards of material into your jeans! Afterall we too have the right to look great don't we?? I think I might have to take a lead on this and set up a store next year. Regards to all Rich
