I'm in the same boat. I am 4'9" and teach kindergarten. One of my taller students was nearly my height and a past student who just finished 1st grade is already taller than me. Its strange. But this year I had a great experience of being a real role model to one of my very small Vietnamese students. The day she met me she got really excited that she had a short teacher.

Hello I am 31 years old and I am 4'9". I have always wanted to know why I am the only short one in my family. It was not until I was grown up that Doctors were able to tell me that I had a type of dwarfism my feet and my hands are very tiny and kind of chubby. I had 3 boys and they are all normal size. I am starting to have issues with my knees.I am just all new with this. I hope everything gets better

Hi I myself am a dwarf but I am a different kind of dwarf I am a hypopatuatary dwarf which simply means my patuatary gland doesn't work. When I turned about 5years old my mom noticed that I was not growing and so she got me into what is called the march of dimes which made me the poster child for them and that raised money for me and my mom to go every 6 months and go to Omaha Nebraska to get patuatary from deceased people put in me. I am now 33 years old and my height now is a even 5 feet. I don't do the treatments anymore but anyways I am married to a wonderful guy who is regular sized and we want to have a baby well I was told with all my problems that it would be impossible so I was hoping someone could give me some advice because we would love a baby in our lives so much. And I am also the only one out of all my family that is a dwarf. So would it be passed on to my children?

I have always thought of myself as a LP but never officially diagnoised. When I was eight I was taken to a special doctor who tested me for Turners syndrome and after all the tests said "well she is just going to be short." What a supprise my mom is 5' and so is my grandma and my great grandma was shorter than that. So now I am 25 years old and 4'8.5'' tall! While in high school everyone at the school called me shorty and I learned to embrace it and love it. When I earned my letter jacket for band I had shorty written on the back of it.
I have a degree in special education and have been looking for a year and a half for a teaching job. I think people don't take me seriously because I am short. I think though that I may have found a job though. When I was in the interview he asked me "What was something that I have struggled with or had to over come?" I totally told them about being short and not being taken serious. I was so glad that he asked that question. Hopefully I will get that job.
It is also hard to be a lesbian and be a LP.

Hello. i am going to be 19 in october, and on a good day i am 4'10.5 but usually i am just 4'10 and i always get made fun of. I was the shortest person in my class out of 330. but besides the actual challenged kids. I got made fun of by the same kids everyday and at my work i get made fun of alot too. I have not got use to it because some times i just want to yell at them or just cry. But when i was younger i was normal until about middle school then i stopped growing and i dont know why. Now i just get sick of people making fun. I just dont know why i cant just let it go.

I'm 41, and 5'2" and my husband is 6'2". We will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this thursday. So don't give up thinking no guy wants to date a short gal. My boss use to say me that I was so short I needed a step ladder just to tie my shoes. My huband and I also have a 9 yr old daughter who is disabled, and wheelchair bound. And she is already 4 feet tall!!!

My daughter is 23 and on the short side she is 5'1" tall and in the Navy. She is constantly being picked on for being short, she takes it in stride because she is good at her job and gets kudos for it all the time from her higher ups. So no matter how short you are you can make the best out of any situation with a go get 'em attitude just like the Roloffs show that they do! IT CAN BE DONE!!!!

Hi I'm Amy,
I'm 43 years old and 5'2. I'm the oldest of 4 children but everyone always thought I was the youngest. I was always the shortest in my class. My first boyfriend called me "mouse".
When I go to the supermarket I have a hard time reaching the top selves. I sometimes have to ask for help to get thing down. In my kitchen I use a stool to put my dishes and glasses away. When I drive I use pillows to make me taller. Sometimes I wish I was taller but I like who I am. My husband call me "Short Stuff". I think it's cute. Thanks for reading my post.

unless you have real, physical disabilities that prevent you from doing everything, what is the big deal about being short? it's not a major problem to have to get a stool or something to reach an item higher than you can reach. not reaching things is hardly a hardship in life unless you make it so.
God made you the way you are for a reason and you should make the best of it.

Greetings all,
My name is Erin. I'm 26 and 4'8". I'm not a dwarf, though there have been a few times people have called me one. There are other times they mistaken me for a date's younger sister or daughter.
The reason I'm so short is due to a condition called Vitamin D Resistant Ricketts (1 in a 100,000) with my particular severity.
I still can't reach things off the top shelf and would ask my bf to get it for me. When I worked at Wal-mart people asked me to get things off the top shelf for them (they saw the vest first then height). I just got inventive, since I knew it'd take forever for another associate to come. I'd get a broom from housewares and nudge the product off the shelf, catch it and give it to the person.
Everyone in my family is tall 5'9" to 6'2" 'cept for me. I even have a twin brother who is 6'1". I can relate to the twins on the show. People shook their heads in disbelief at the idea that my brother and I were twins.

He just walks right up to people and says hi all the time. My sister insisted he go to a normal pre-school and he is doing well. He does tend to go inside himself at time but for the most part he is just a lovely outgoing little boy. I will tell you what I always tell my nephew. If people can't accept you for who you are, then forget about them. They are not decent people if you have to work very hard at making friends with them. Is there maybe a LP group in your area where you can meet some friends? Many times average size people go as well so you might find some fun new people to hang out with. I am hearing impaired and enjoy meeting people who have similar problems as I do just simply because it helps to get a perspective on how they deal with certain issues. It might help you too. Please keep us posted how things go for you.

I hated being told I looked younger, but now that I've reached the ripe old age of 40, I appreciate looking younger because of my height( or lack thereof, lol). Yes, I have to have my driver's seat pushed all the way forward, and yes I have to sit on a cushion to see over the dash. And sometimes I have to climb on my kitchen counter to reach my upper cabinets, but you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. I like who I am, and that's what's important. By the way. my sister is the same heeight as I am, and we have a cousin who is 4'10". And we're all very happy with who we are.

And the rudeness you've endured at school bajen. And to the countless # of others who have been wronged by society. Seeing some lightheartedness on this forum is great, cleodog37, swittlinger & others! I myself am 27, 5'5". And you know what? I'm too short to do some things! I too am "pleasingly plump." But I know that I'm blessed with what I've got and I think of my friends on this forum every day.
Well said my daughter is lp and her boyfriend is 6'2

That just kills me, it doesn't matter what height anyone is or what they look like, all that matters is you love each other. I had friends ( i thought) that are little their selfs that didn't like that I went out or married a average size guy. Well their not my friends no more! People are too judge mental and they need to get over it!!!!

quote: Originally posted by mad4mky: Hello. I am 46, and am 4' 9". I never considered myself a 'little person' by the technical standards...but obviously, I am little. I have 3 daughters, ages 22, 20 and 15. All were very large babies...and all are short in growth like me(actually, I am shorter than the 3 of them).
I relate so much to the Roloffs in so many ways, it is unbelievable. My family is not 'into' the show like I am...but when they walk by as I am watching I will say "Oh, I so 'get' that!!!". Things high up in the grocery stores, not being able to see over a dash, items being put away in tall cabinets. Geesh...the things we go throug to 'fit' in the tall world! I also love their kitchen remodel. My first husband and I did a kitchen remodel, and although counters were not done as low as the Roloffs, it was pretty close. I loved that kitchen! Anyways, I just wanted to chime in, that I too am a shortie as well. And, for anyone who knows, because I am 4'9", would I be able to join the "Little People of America" groups? Just curious.
Oh...and I should add...that while both my husbands (ex and current) are considered of average height, they are both rather short for men. 5' 7" and 5' 8".
I'm not sure if being short would be considered the same as being afflicted with some type of dwarfism, which, unless I'm wrong, is what the organization LPA is really all about - I don't think it's just about stature - there is a dfference between just being short and being an actual 'Little Person' by their standard of definition. My grandmother and an aunt were both no taller than 4'8", my mother was 5' exactly and I'm 5'2 - in no instance were either my grandmother, aunt or mother ever diagnosed with any form of dwarfism

I have a granddaughter with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and she is going to be a little people. I am trying to find out if there is someplace that makes clothing especially for little people. she is 1 year 8 months old and she is the size of a 7 or 8 month old so it is hard to find some clothes that fit over her pigeon chest (from the OI) and she breaks really easily. Please help me out I love the show.
