And let the story, begin. :B
~ Chapter 1 ~
The meerkat stood, staring into the distance. Its eyes locked with a wildebeest and its calf in the distant grassy field. The tiny calf pranced on wobbly, spiky legs, tumbling over commonly. The proud mother of the calf smiled at her newborn, nudging him off the ground repeatedly with her gentle touch. The little child never gave up, and continued to stand again and again, until finally, he whinnied joyfully and jogged off, the mother trotting after him. The meerkat that'd been watching them smiled, and turned around as a female nudged her. "What'cha looking at, Teressa?" the new female asked. Teressa smiled at her sister. "Nuttin'. How's Mom?" The female smiled brightly. "She's doing wonderful! No complications so far, though no pups have come yet. Hey Gingy, have you noticed something? Have you noticed how not a single battle or any hate has happened today? It's been with all the animals! I've seen them only being happy..." Gingy nodded. "Yeah... it's preety weird... And look at the sky! I've never seen a sunset like this before..." Both Gingy and Teressa looked up into the sky. Velvet, silky strands of clouds were whisped across the sky- which was painted a glorious ruby-red. Right now, the sun was behind a cloud, but the area was bright, beautiful, and breath-taking.

"Wanna go see her?" Teressa questioned. Gingy stretched. "You can go- I'm staying out here. I've been down there for a while; need some air, haha." Teressa smiled with a nod and went below, while Gingy sat down on her haunches, smiling up at the sunset sky. "You have blessed us, Angels," she breathed out.
This, is a story I doubt you could ever forget. A story of a meerkat that never fails to surprise me. A meerkat that's faced more battles than I faced through my 'ole life. But one thing is this: the young lady never gave up. If it weren't for her unbreakable force of faith, only Creator knows where she would've ended up. What did she do? She rose. She fell. She was down, and she rose again. Eventually, her life seemed to be this pattern: Rise. Fall down. Rise again. It happened constantly in her life. It was an endless cycle- it seemed to be her own circle of life. And who am I? Young one, that shall remain a secret until you join me here in Angels, where our paws tread on blankets of cotton clouds where we watch over our generations after us. The child of kindness this story is about is of a beautiful young lady that grew up in tragedy, but one day turned in the queen of a manor, known as Kalahari. Who is this meerkat I speak of? Child, her name is, Ruby. Ruby, Talon.

~~~ "Breathe, dear, niiice and easy... In... out..." Lucelle obeyed her mate's, Prince, words. She was clutching onto his paw tightly, squeezing hard. Prince ignored the pain completely, rubbing Lucelle's paw that was clutched to his own. Many of the mob were below ground with Lucelle in the massive chamber, such as Lucelle's daughter Firestar, her neice Pixie and nephew Kris, her adult daughter Anaki, and many others. Firestar was on Lucelle's left side, her paw to her mother's forehead, and Prince to her left side, keeping Lucelle calm. Prince kissed Lucelle's cheek. "You alright? You okay?" he asked in his normal tender tone. "Mhmm..." Lucelle answered quietly, and a bit unsteadily. "Just stay calm... I'm right here, hunny, I won't be going anywhere..." Prince cooed, running his free paw over his beloved mate's head. Lucelle smiled at him and nuzzled him gently, then heaved through clenched teeth, strangling Prince's paw. Prince allowed it with no protest and held her paw tightly. "C'Mon..." he mumbled, trying to encourage Lucelle.
After a vigorous push, the tiny head of a pup came into sight. The mob gasped and Prince smiled at Lucelle, praising her quietly. "Good job, dear, good job, you're doin it!" Lucelle smiled back at him and, a few seconds later, the last bit of the tiny pup fell to the burrow ground. The very moment the child's body hit the ground, the cloud that was blocking the sun instantly opened up and a ray of jewel sunlight speared down at the burrow enterance, and the sky bellowed simply: "She Is Here". Instantly, all the Kalahari animals cheered in joy. Caliens, as well. The elephants bellowed and the zebras "u-yuped" and the birds sang and the antelope opera'ed and the wildebeest whinnied and the meerkats barked and the jackals howled and the lions roared and the alligators rumbled and the buffalo mooed and the cheetahs cheered and the girafees reared up and the rhinos called until the entire Kalahari wer singing together as one in joy. As one. As a life. As a family. It was true. She was here.
Back below ground, Lucelle's labor pains suddenly froze as the pup was born. Lucelle and Prince smiled at her and licked her repeatedly, then Lucelle and Prince picked her up together. She was a female. The proud parents smiled ear-to-ear at their new daughter. One thing about her was different, though... Her eyes. They looked into her beautiful eyes, and saw only one thing: A complete angel. Her eyes were amber-brown, but in each iris, were ruby-red speckles that were the exact same color as the sky that sunset. The little female looked at her mother and father curiously, then smiled happily and laughed, clapping her tiny paws. "Awwwww!" Caliens said as one. Lucelle and Prince laughed with the female, too, hugging her closely. The little girl continued to laugh in joy and said unskillfully, "Da-Da! Ma-Ma!" The baby continued laughing and hugged her parents tightly, not wanting to let go. Prince and Lucelle were smiling with giggles, tickling their daughter gently. "Yes, yes, sweetheart, Mommy and Daddy! Mommy and Daddy!" Prince giggled with a baby voice at the new daughter, while Lucelle was laughing in joy, nuzzling the baby girl and saying repeatedly, "Yes, yes, we're here!" A second later, Lucelle and Prince gasped as one as they looked into the pup's eyes again, and faced each other, and said together, "Ruby." Yes, yes. This daughter's name, was Ruby.
Ruby wasn't the only one in the litter- there were 5 young pups in all, and they were Ruby, Dealya, Akkuro, Oscar, and Flami. The largest was Ruby, and the runt was Dealya. Dealya had normal meerkat fur, with deep, dark-blue eyes. But, she had a potentially fatal birth defect. On her left hip, where her hip met her belly, was a painful, black-blue bruise. Underneath her flesh, was a soft mush- the bone was not developed correctly, and was not solid. This was her weak spot, and a wound there could VERY easily kill her. Dealya was a quite nervous pup, and prefered to stay with Ruby- for some reason, she felt very safe with Ruby. Akkuro was slightly smaller than Ruby, and had dark, normal meerkat fur, with dark-red berry-colored eyes with a purple tint. Oscar was the only male. He was about the same size as Akkuro, with normal meerkat fur, with green eyes. Flami was normal sized, with normal meerkat fur, with stripes that looked like fire. Her eyes were like a blazing inferno of fire that scorced with curiousity. She, like Dealya, followed Ruby absolutely anywhere. All five pups were healthy, and all had a great life ahead.
♥~ Chapter 2 ~♥
Ruby stumbled through the burrow, laughing, as her four littermates chased her. "We'll get you, Wuby!" Oscar called. "You bettwer wun!" Akkuro warned. "Oh no you won't!" Ruby teased, and ran faster. Laughing joyfully, Ruby ran faster, and Akkuro, Oscar, Flami, and Dealya all retaliated by running faster, too. Comming around a curve, all five pups skidded to a screeching stop as they rammed one-by-one into their 11 year-old father, Prince. Prince smiled as his 5 youngest children bumped into his left leg, and the five youngsters only looked up at him, laughing. "Sowwy, Daddy!" Ruby appologized, still laughing. "Yeah, sowwy, Dad!" Oscar added in, and it was soon followed by the other 3 pups. "Oh, it's okay, guys! You all playing nicely?" Prince asked with a smile. "Yeah! We're playing chase!" all the pups chorused. "Oh, you are?" the proud father said with a smile. "That's great! Well, I'm going back above ground so you all can keep playing- have fun, sweethearts!" "Thanks, Daddy!" the orderly children thanked as Prince walked out of the burrow. "Welcome!" Prince said back as he reached the burrow enterance. With a rebellious smirk, the 5 pups instantly started to run around again, and, after many more minutes of play, the pups were soon in an exhausted heap deep in the burrow, laughing and breathing heavily after the rough 'n tumble play. The 5 pups were dozing quietly, half awake, half asleep. But, Dealya was sound asleep, smiling peacefully. Flami, too, was asleep, and Akkuro was half asleep. Ruby and Oscar were giggling, playfighting with their paws very gently.
Soon, Ruby and Oscar were the only two of the five pups awake. They were preety tired, but still, they were playing gently. Afterwards, though, Ruby and Oscar were cuddled up together, resting. Ruby smiled at Oscar and nuzzled him. "I wuv vu, Oscwar." Oscar grinned back, nuzzling his sister in return. "I wuv vu, too, Wuby." "Hey Oscwar... We'll always be together as famiwy... Wight?" Ruby asked curiously. Oscar smiled tenderly. "Yep. Always." Ruby and Oscar continued to smile at each other, then they both fell asleep as dreams of life above the burrow massaged their tired minds.
Ruby kicked the rock through the burrow with her front paws, bored. How much longer until she could finally go above ground? It was so boring in the burrow... Looking at nothing but hard walls of sand, smelling nothing but dusty, cool air. Ruby continued walking through the maze of tunnels, kicking the small bound of sandy rock in front of her. "I only wonder what lays beyond these plain 'ole walls..." Ruby sighed and kicked the rock hard, and Dealya, Flami, Akkuro, and Oscar, obviously agreeing, jumped behind Ruby, and the 5 young littermates began to sing. "What on Earth is this? A home? Sure, it's safe and fuuuuun, to explore, but soon these plain, 'ole waaaalls, get old!" they sang in chorus. "I want to know what's-" Ruby continued. "-beyooooond, these walls!" "Maybe an adventure!" Oscar rang out. "... Or some fun!" "Maybe new sites!" Dealya sang. "... Or new friends!" "Maybe surprises!" Akkuro added. "... Or good times!" "Maybe dreamlands!" Flami stuffed in. "... Or some laughs!" "What's beyond these walls?!" "I just wish I knew, what I could find-" Ruby sang. "Outside of this saaaaaandy cage!" "Why do we have, to-" Ruby continued. "Be locked, up here!" "When we could beeeee-" Ruby leaded. "Playing there!" "Or maybeeee..." Ruby thought. "They want us to just sit here and stare!" "What's beyond these walls?!" "Have you ever nooooooticed how you feeeeel like you could walk through this maze with eyes closed?" Ruby chirped. "Or recognize its smell a year from noooow?" Flami and Akkuro sang together. "Don't it feeeeeel like it gives you eternal deja-vuuu?" Oscar and Dealya chorused. "I only wish I could see what lay beyooond..." Ruby sighed. "But the grown-ups always say we're far too young..." they complained. "But inside, we know that we can live..." Ruby concluded. "And it makes me want to saaaaaaaay, ooooooooh... What's beyond these walls?! I just want to knooooooooooooooooooooooooow..." "What's!" Oscar... "Be-!" Akkuro... "Yond!" Dealya... "These!" Flami... "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalls!" they finished together, falling on the ground of the burrow with their paws crossed and scowling, bored.
"I'm bored!" Akkuro sighed. "Me too..." Ruby fed the thought. "I hope we get to go above ground soon..." Oscar complained. "Yeah!" Flami and Dealya agreed. The five pups sighed as one, and layed down boredly, heads together. "Ruby, do you have any ideas? You've always got the best idea of all of us!" Dealya asked her sister. Ruby sighed with a shrug. "I dunno... There's truely not alot you CAN do in this place..." "She's gotta point..." Flami mumbled. "Well... Ma and Dad promised we could come outside when we were 3 weeks old, right? At least is SEEMS like it's been that long..." Ruby tried to encourage everyone. "Seems like it's been LONGER..." Akkuro grumbled. "I agree..." Suddenly, a familiar scent wafted over them- their mother, Lucelle, and their father, Prince. Ruby gasped in excitement, instantly jumping up. "C'Mon, guys! Maybe today's the day!" The other four pups quickly looked at each other, and jumped up after Ruby, dashing off toward the scent of Prince and Lucelle.
Soon, the five were jumping around their parents' paws, excited. "Do we get to go above ground?!" "Is today the day?!" "Please?!" "Preety, preety pleeeeeaaaaase?!" they finally pried together as one, paws in a begging position and their heads close together. Lucelle and Prince, giggling with smiles, nodded. "Mhmm! You guys get to come above ground now!" Lucelle answered. "Yup! But you guys have to be goo-ood!" Prince added with a smile. The five pups gave a large victory jump, prancing around in excitement. "Yaaaaaay!" Chirping with curiousity and excitement, the littermates followed Lucelle and Prince toward the burrow enterance, where bright light filtered into the den. When the 5 pups saw the light where the enterance was for the first time, they gasped and took a step back... Prince and Lucelle were standing outside at the enterance, looking down. "Wooooow..." all the pups said, cowering back a bit. Ruby stepped back too, but, also had her mouth open in awe. "Cooool..." she whispered. "Sure is bright out there..." Dealya said. Prince and Lucelle smiled down at them. "C'Mon, guys, it's okay- Mom and Dad are right here..." Prince cooed. "It's alright- we won't let anything hurt you, dears," Lucelle re-assured. Dealya was obviously most nervous, and took another step back. Ruby, though, seemed a bit more fearless. She cocked her head curiously at the light she'd never seen before, and slowly, she took the first step toward it. She continued to walk on her four small legs slowly toward the light, and, finally, the light stabbed down on her like a vicious jackal's claws and she closed her eyes for a second with her teeth gritted. "Good job, Ruby!" Lucelle and Prince praised, grooming their daughter in congratulations. Ruby slowly opened her curious eyes and looked around at all the faces... They were all looking and smiling at her. She felt slightly embarassed and hot with uncomfort by all the faces staring at her at one time, but, her mouth agapped, continued to let her eyes roam...
Soon, Ruby dropped her gaze to the sand around her and slowly began to climb the white heap of sand in front of her. Prince and Lucelle continued to shephard the five children out into the open, and, slowly, their confidence expanded. Dealya and Flami were most frightened, while Ruby was the boldest of them. Ruby, soon, was on top of the white, loose heap of sand, laying on her belly, letting her eyes seep in all the sights. Her older siblings were around her, grooming her, in praise that she'd plucked up the courage to go above ground. The four others were finally above ground, too, but weren't as far up as their sister. Seeing all was in order, after about an hour of playing with the pups, the group returned to normal duties. Some were on sentry, some were escavating the burrow, some were playfighting, some were still guarding the pups, Lucelle was being groomed by one of her grown-up daughters, and Prince was scent-marking the area. Ruby, Akkuro, Oscar, Dealya, and Flami stayed close together with their grown-up sister, Teressa. Teressa kept had always had a strong love of pups, and loved to be with her younger siblings. But, Teressa had no clue that she was being watched by a certain someone... Her cousin, Pixie, was watching her closely, as well as her male cousin, Kris, were both watching Teressa and the pups with angry scowls...
Kris soon rolled his eyes and began to forage near a tree, while Pixie locked her eyes on Ruby... She growled deeply. Pixie had to admit to herself, she was awfully jelous of Ruby... Every Calien knew that Ruby was the Calien Princess, and was destined to lead Caliens once Lucelle was gone one day. But, Pixie wanted that power. She didn't want her younger cousin to be a queen before her! She knew she HAD to get rid of Ruby... Pixie glanced at her mother, Sarabia- who prefered to simply be called "Sarabi"- and Sarabi nodded to her, obviously knowing what Pixie was thinking. Pixie smiled darkly and layed down, watching the pups, and waiting... Suddenly, Lucelle called Teressa over to her, and Teressa bounded over to her mother. Pixie giggled and stalked over to the pups, secretly scooping Ruby up in her mouth; the act was so smooth and secretive, no one saw it. She instantly dashed off into a bush, then slowly crept away from the burrow, Ruby in her jaws. Ruby didn't sense any danger and looked up at Pixie curiously. "Where we goin', Pixie?" "Oh, we're just gonna go play! Don't worry, you're fine!" Pixie lied, faking an innocent voice. "Okays." Soon, Pixie and Ruby were at a massive, massive tree. It was larger than an elephant, to be honest- it was a baobab tree. Pixie plopped Ruby down onto the ground in the open between two bushes, smirking a bit. Now, Ruby seemed a bit more nervous. "Pixie, where are we? I'm scared..." Pixie giggled playfully. "Ohhh, no worries! You're fine! Now, I'll be back in just a few minutes... Wait riiiiight there..." And Pixie stalked off.
As Pixie jumped through a bush, leaving it quivering, Ruby glanced around anxiously. She looked into the towering baobab tree above her, and saw many birds of prey. Lucky for her, though, the blood-hungry winged beasts hadn't spotted the tiny 3-week-old child yet. If they did, alone out here in the open, Ruby would most definantly be doomed... ... But Pixie said she'd be okay, right? Ruby, not knowing anything about liars, black-hearts, and dangerous meerkats, still believed Pixie. ... Even when Pixie still wasn't back after about 10 minutes. Now, Ruby was starting to get worried... She was hungry and missed the comfort of her sisters, brother, and parents; she far prefered being with them rather than this scary, dangerous bird haven... Whimpering slightly, Ruby crawled into a thick, lush bush that gardened the roots of the baobab, cuddling close to the chocolate-brown roots. Ruby stayed crouched there, only waiting, unaware that her own life, if she wasn't rescued, would soon be taken by certain death... Finally, Ruby could let the slightest sigh of relief escape her lungs. She smelt someone familiar... A, family smell... "Ruby? Ruby! Ruuuuuuuuu-byyyyyyyyyyyy!" Teressa! Ruby gasped and immediantly called back, "Teressa! Over here!" Ruby smiled a bit. Was she about to be rescued? But, even if Teressa did find her, she wouldn't be out of the woods yet- she still had to get home safetly. Instantly, a crying Teressa gasped and dashed over to the crying Ruby, scooping her little sister up in her arms and holding her close. "Oh, Ruby, you're alright!" Ruby's only response was a tight hug; she was crying to hard to actually speak. "Shhh, shhh, shhhhh... It's alright, sweety. How'd you get out here?" Teressa questioned. Ruby calmed down a bit and looked up at Teressa. "Pixie left me here and didn't come back! But she promised she would!" Teressa instantly growled and scowled at Pixie's name. "That rotten skink-brain! I'll be sure to notify Mom about that when we get home..."
Teressa and Ruby were cuddled against the tree, both resting. Ruby was exhausted, and was half-asleep. Finally, Teressa looked in the direction of the burrow. "We should head home soon... I didn't tell Mom when I noticed you were missing- she would've been too worried..." Ruby nodded, obviously missing Akkuro, Flami, Dealya, Oscar, her mother, and her father greatly.
Teressa picked Ruby up in her mouth, scanned the area, then dashed toward the burrow. Immediantly as Teressa got there, Ruby heard her mother's cries. Lucelle, crying, dashed over to Teressa and pulled Ruby close to her chest, while Prince, also over-relieved, sighed a breath of relief and hugged Lucelle and Ruby close. "My baby!" Lucelle cried. "Thank goodness you're alright! We were so worried!" Prince said, his voice quivering. Ruby hugged her parents close, not wanting to let go. Her four littermates were crying, too, and were prancing around Lucelle and Prince's legs in happiness, while Teressa only smiled. Now, Ruby was home safe. But, Pixie was at the edge of the group, her back turned and head swivelled around, glaring at Ruby... She growled quietly and warned in a whisper, "You'll pay for that, Teressa..." Ruby saw Pixie's venomous scowl and cuddled closer to her mother. She didn't want to admit that her own family could turn on her, but she knew one thing: Pixie was no allie. She was a foe.
~♥ Chapter 3 ♥~
Pixie got in big trouble when Teressa told her parents that she'd abandoned Ruby. The only reason Pixie was allowed to stay was that she lied that she was only playing, when she truely wasn't. Since that horrid encounter, Pixie was watching closely. Now, Ruby's life took a massive turn, and headed onto a crash course. Her life began to see what life could really bring, and that, was the heartbreaking tragedies. And, against her own will, Ruby was forced to face them. Once the pups were 4 weeks old, they began to forage with the group. All five of them were fed well, and gradually picked up they skills they would need to survive in the harsh desert. But, one day of foraging, Ruby's heart was mauled for the first time. Ruby and Oscar were foraging near an old, hollow tree. They weren't effective foragers, but, they were improving, and were trying to find prey on their own. But, the two of them had no clue what had taken shelter in the tree... A deadly Cape cobra. It was bad news. Especially, for one of Ruby's beloved littermates... When Ruby's back was turned, and Oscar was turned against her, Oscar got far too close for comfort to the tree... Suddenly, a deep hiss sounded, and the large Cape cobra lunged out at the corner of the tree, snagging Oscar's belly in his jaws, injecting a full, massive dose of poison... Oscar screamed and fell over, and, gasping, Ruby jumped around. "Oscar!" Oscar was already fading fast. Oscar was dying, quickly... Ruby fell to Oscar's side, crying. "Oscar!" Oscar looked into Ruby's eyes. He knew that something wasn't right, and that he was almost gone... Finally, Ruby knew this too, and, as a tear fell down her cheek, she kissed Oscar's cheek, and puzzled out, "I-I love y-you, Oscar..." "I love... you... too..." Then, he was gone, and Ruby let out a horrified wail. Oscar was dead.
After the adults found out, everyone was horrified, and crying. Lucelle and Prince the most... Ruby almost refused to talk- she was beyond heartbroken... Oscar was buried at a massive camel-thorn tree in the eastern part of their territory, where all dead Caliens were buried. They stayed there for a long time, but, eventually, returned to the burrow after a heartcrushing ceremony for Oscar.
Soon, Ruby, Akkuro, Dealya, and Flami were all healthy juveniles. Prey was seemingly abundant, and Lucelle was heavily pregnant again, so the future looked quite bright. One morning, Ruby and Dealya asked Lucelle if they could go for a short walk together. Ruby and Dealya were the most adventurous of the pups, and went of walks together sometimes if they got their parents' permission. "Alright, you two can go. Just be careful, now, m'kay?" "'Course, Mom!" Ruby and Dealya barked as one. "Haha, okay. Have fun, sweethearts!" Lucelle told them. "Thanks, Mom!" Ruby and Dealya, laughing in joy, dashed off side-by-side. Akkuro and Flami sat down and watched the two. "I'll bet I'll get there first!" Ruby teased. "Oh no you won't!" Dealya laughed. Ruby laughed playfully and ran faster, her paws soaring over the ground, the wind singing in her ears as her spirit flew. Ruby felt so wild, so free... She could run like this forever. She soared past Dealya, dashing toward the tree her eyes had locked down. Letting her paws glide over the desert sand, she continued to dash, until finally, she reached the tree, richotted off of it with her back paws, and landed skillfully, panting in joy. "Beat'cha, Dealya!" Dealya finally reached the tree, panting, too. "Yup, you got me, Ruby! And DANG! You were running FAST! I've NEVER seen a kat run THAT fast before! Haha, it looked like you were running from a cheetah!" Laughing, the two sisters began to playfight joyously. Boy, did it feel good to be so free!
But, danger still loomed... In a nearby bush, their aunt Sarabi, Lucelle's sister, was stalking them... She crouched low like a skillful female lion, growling quietly at her two neices... She wanted revenge on them... Having the good life! It was sickening... Sarabi growled once more, then stalked over to another bush and waited... "Pinned ya!" Ruby barked as she pinned Dealya to the ground. Laughing, Dealya play-pawed at Ruby's face in play-submission. "Haha, you got me, Dominant!" Squeeling in joyful play, Ruby and Dealya continued to play together. Finally, they headed westward, where the entire group was playing and foraging. Ruby and Dealya sat down at the edge of the group, sister-gossiping and talking together. But then, they erupted into laughter, pointing paws at their older brother, Nicholas, who came from Lucelle's litter before Ruby and the others, who was a teenager. Almost all the group was at the sight, laughing with Nicholas. What was so funny? Why, Nicholas' head was stuck in a small tin can! "Who turned out the lights over here? It's dark, man! ... And why does everything echo? Oh, cool! Echoooooo!" Nicholas barked. The gang laughed harder as Nicholas rammed his head into a tree, falling over onto his back. "What was THAT? Duuuuude, I can't see!" Nicholas chirped. Finally, he put his paws on the lid of the tin can and pulled his head back, eventually popping head out of the rusty can. When Nicholas saw the sight, he fell over laughing, too. For once in a long time, the entire family was laughing together at good times.
... But, to some, it could seem as a dark harbringer. Sarabi, who was still hidden in the bush, laughed none... Her eyes were nailed to Ruby. Princess Of Kalahari Manor... What a joke! She wouldn't let her neice get all the glory... She wouldn't let her become a queen... She growled and simply waited. A few minutes later, Ruby and Dealya were playing again, to the south of the bush. To their north was- unknown to them- Sarabi in a large bush, and a thick oasis of trees. To their west, was a collection of jumbly vines and trees, and to their east was an open plain with splotched bushes. As the laughing Ruby and Dealya played, they had no clue that Sarabi was lurking, and watching them with her mind clouded with dark thoughts... Soon, her chance came. Ruby and Dealya were about six-seven tail-lengths away, and, hissing with a black laugh, she leaped out of the bush, claws extended, aiming for Ruby. Both sisters were caught completely off guard, and Ruby immediantly gasped as she saw Sarabi soaring toward her. Dealya gasped as well, and took action far before she stood in a daze. Dealya instantly lunged forward, jumping between Ruby and Sarabi, screaming "No!". Sarabi hissed in annoyance and Ruby yelped with a "Dealya!", but Sarabi willingly dug her claws into Dealya's side, pinning her. Ruby yelped in fear for her sister, and quickly took action, jumping at Sarabi and attacked her violently. Sarabi constantly pushed her away violently, which was still easy, since Ruby was still only a juvenile, and Sarabi was a full-grown adult. The fight continued for many minutes, Dealya, Ruby, and Sarabi all fighting. But, one blow ended it all... Sarabi's claws drove into Dealya's weak spot on her hip, and her claws easily buried into her kidney area. Dealya immediantly gasped and fell over- she was instantly dead. Ruby wailed and fell on her sister's body, crying. Sarabi stood, simply smirking. Then, Ruby began to shake, and she lifted her head up to glare at Sarabi, Ruby's claw pointing at her. "You... YOU MURDERER!" Ruby hissed, and slammed into her aunt. She embedded her right "pointer-claw" into the side of Sarabi's right eye, and drug it quickly down her face, making a long, odd, permanant scar. The act happened very quickly, and Sarabi yelped and dashed away to the east, not stopping for one minute. Watching her run, Ruby's heart began to melt once again... Dealya was gone. She began to cry, and collapsed onto Dealya, hugging her dead sister tightly.
Zorro ::
Sarabi, since Ruby was born, was very jelous of Ruby. She knew that Ruby was Caliens' Princess, but she was determined not to let Ruby EVER become a queen. So, she's always wanted to kill Ruby. Sarabi's not alive today, though. She was killed in a Talon/Connrad battle by... someone. [: You'll eventually find out in the story. ;]
Dealya was buried by the massive camel thorn tree where all Caliens were put to rest. Ruby visited the "graveyard" alot, since she felt sometimes like she still could talk to her departed siblings... She truely missed them. Ruby was beginning to face the world's harsh reality. There were no more fairytales in this blood sponge... No more "happily ever afters". Now there was nothing but blood, nothing but pain... Did it ever end? Ruby sometimes prayed to Angels that one day, she'd be numb to the constant pain the Kalahari embedded her into... Or was this just life? Ruby didn't understand... how could the world be so cold? And mostly, Ruby wanted to know this: How much longer would it take until she'd finally had enough?
~♥ Chapter 4 ♥~
Shhhhhhhh... The furious rain drove endlessly in dark sheets like flaming needles, as the thunder snarled and the lightning clawed through the sky like jackal claws. Puddles formed in between hummocks, making a snap as they dove into the sandy water. The wind blew as an invisible giant huffed and puffed, making the trees seizure in the cold. Ruby lay a few whiskers from the burrow enterance, staring out into the raging storm, which would be the last of the season. She seemed to be looking beyond it, though... She was reflecting on her short life so far, and all that had happened. Being abandoned to dance with death himself... Oscar and Dealya dying only whisker-lengths from her... Pain... There was just so MUCH of it... Ruby sighed and glanced down the burrow, watching her sleeping family anxiously. Lucelle was due to give birth literally any moment, and had been sticking by her mother very closely for the past few days, as well as Prince. Seeing the mob looked peaceful, she sighed and turned back to the rain, feeling tense... She felt a deep, piercing sadness swelling in her heart. She began to quiver, then, barely without even thinking, she dashed out into the pouring rain. The rain spat venomously at her pelt tauntingly, as the long earthquakes of lightning and thunder continued to curse above, the thunder drumming as the sky split, releasing the gold light of Angels territory itself, lasting less than a second as the sight hid in secrecy for a few more moments, the drill an endless pattern. Ruby ignored the storm, though already soaked to the bone. She actually just ran straight ahead, having no clue where she was going... She was heading north.
Suddenly, Ruby skidded to a hault, her claws making soaked sand flop forward. She looked in front of her, seeing a large, lush oasis... It seemed to be calling for her to come, to enter... Glancing about, ignoring the rain, Ruby stepped into the grass, and soon, she was in the cover of the oasis, and not a single drop of rain penetrated through the trees to hiss down upon her. Her mouth agapped in amazement, she looked around... The entire area was a river of color. Thick green shoots embraced all of the area with different leaves and plants, glittering butterflies danced in the air, that literally left sparkling drops of silver behind and around them. To Ruby's right was a trickling stream with cyan-blue, completely clear water. She could see the bottom of the small stream perfectly... Flowers bloomed everywhere... Ruby had never had a larger sensation of peace in her life. She felt nothing but sanity, nothing but happiness... It was perfect... Ruby couldn't help but smile. It was just too peaceful... "Come." The whispering voice that flowed past her ears didn't frighten her. It was so peaceful, again... Instead, Ruby's heartbeat continued to get slower and slower, to the point at where she felt like she was in supreme nirvana. Hearing the voice, she walked toward its source- north... Soon, she stopped in her tracks in the soft blanket of green and looked straight ahead. The stream branched off into a small pond of cyan-blue, shimmering water. "She Has Come. Welcome."
Ruby jumped, looking around frantically. How close the voice was startled her. "Who's there?" Then Ruby saw a beautiful, shimmering, transparent meerkat standing on the soft blanket of grass. She was pure white with golden angel wings- Ruby could see right through her. The female shimmered like a jewel, specks of strange, golden "sprinkles" fluttering from her slowly, onto the ground. Her claws and fangs were sheer, glittery gold. Ruby had never seen a more gorgeous 'kat... But something was different about her. She looked into the meerkat's eyes to see nothing. Nothing but a white, reflectant sphere. No pupil. No iris. Just a snowy white... The female smiled at her, kissing Ruby's cheek tenderly. "Hello, the dear. You've finally come..." Ruby was deeply confused. Come for what? For a moment, she almost thought this woman was mad. Completely insane... "Here... for what?" The meerkat only smiled. She was clearly from Angels (( Meerkat Heaven )). She put her paw on Ruby's cheek; the young Calien princess was amazed by how soft, how gentle, how soothing it was... "My dear, don't you see? You are She. And you've come to receive your gift." "My... gift?" "Yes, My Lady." "I don't... understand..." Suddenly, the female's eyes clouded with grief. And fear. And doom... She spoke simply: "You shall have a son." Ruby stepped back with a gasp. Why... did she need to know this? Now? Why? "What... do you mean...?" She shook her head. "You shall have a son..." "What... son?" "You shall have a son..." "But... WHO?" "The Demon... The Demon... The darkest soul you'll ever meet... The Demon... The Demon... You shall have a son..." Ruby was now overwhelmed. WHAT was she TALKING about?! Was she completely MAD?! She'd never even THOUGHT of children! Ruby only shook her head, not responding... The female answered for her. "But you have a gift." "What... are you... TALKING about...?!" "Your son, my dear." "I... I HAVE no son!" "Indeed, you do... you will..." "How..." "My dear, step in the water." It was all she said. Ruby wanted to ask "why", but was too dumbfounded. Too confused. This made no sense... She only put one paw- her right paw- into the water. Ruby was amazed. It was the exact same temperature as the air... It wasn't hot... It wasn't cold... Even more, she could see right through it. Just like she was looking through air. She saw small, glittery, gorgeous fish streaming through the water, around her paws, their shimmering tails tickling her fur that danced in the sweet water. "Now dive."
