WTF!!!!! This is a real nice way to treat you fans. Advertise it all week and then throw in a rerun at the last second. It's nice to know what you think about us. Now, guess what I'm thinking about you!!!

lol.. No problem.. This problem is not with just the discovery channel.. There is article after article the past 2 days of how the shocking ratings of the Olympics has cause networks to push things off and rethink airing of shows during it. Last night's airing on NBC literally was the biggest Olympic ratings of all time.. I can tell you the NFL is freaking out right now with moving around live preseason games to be less competitive with the Olympics.. In all honesty, as a sports fan as well as a major Mythbusters fan. Its really nice to see Americans coming together and supporting their country for sports....Even though it causes me to miss my major shows.. If I were to nail it down, I would think that last nights poor ratings for the new Smash Lab episode probably freaked out Discovery Channel because of the high ratings of the Olympics.. But that is just a guess.. Who really knows.. Anyhow.. I hope the rest of your evening goes better Mythmod.. I just think the shock of the episode got fans up in the air.. I deal with it quite a bit as well.. You should of seen the shock when Cowboy fans found out today the NFL channel is airing the Jets game (Brett Favre) and not showing the Cowboy game coast to coast this Saturday.. Its about 50 pages of OMG!!! And although I don't make NFL decisions, or even Dallas Cowboy decisions, I get to hear about it.. LOL.. I feel your pain!

Advertisers pay the bills. Advertisers probably saw what was happening with the Olympics and decided to withdraw first-run support for a high-profile (for Discovery) show until the all-clear is sounded and acceptable ratings can be expected. If that is the case, however, someone left it awfully late to make the decision that was made. The programmers? The advertisers?
The point is, you don't torque off your viewer base unless you have absolutely no other choice. A decision was apparently made by certain parties to do what was done, and accept that it was going to make many viewers very mad. But how could they have been so inattentive - if it is the Olympics - as to get themselves into that position in the first place?

ok not to belittle the olympics in any way (i love the womens gymnastics) but the low ratings on smashlab was probably because the show is awful!!! jmo LOL

I can understand being disappointed that a new episode didn't air. I also understand that some things are beyond my control and accept that and move on. My life as I know it isn't going to end because I didn't see a new episode. I am content to know that the shows will air and I will have the opportunity to see them.
How you deal with this snafu is up to you. You can rant and rave here, you can email Discovery Channel using the contact link, or you can just say "I'll see them when they air later." Anger isn't productive.
MythMod
Anger may not be productive but it is entirely inevitable in a case like this. As for me, yes, in a sense, I would rather have had it cancelled outright. In fact I turned the channel rather than watch an episode I've already seen at least three times.

Come on! You let smash lab play a new episode with their menial "experiments". I mean come on, you add mass and it changes the equation. F=MA if you add some mass... you know what, never mind. How is it that if you add 400 lbs mass to the car it will change the "terminal g-force". A simple calc would of figured that. Bring on "Mythbusters"

All we want are new episodes, they aren't hard to construct heck the producers never let the fans actually pick the show and most any fans would love to actually do a myth without having to worry about insurance or being paid. When this happens again, please give us a few days warning atleast, thats all we request.

We can use the forums, we can contact Discovery Channel, but it won't fix anything. This has been going on ever since Discovery came on the air. Last minute schedule changes, lack of updates, shows that mysteriously get changed to a different show in the middle of the airing. Remember when Discovery was only a part time channel or a channel shared with another channel? How many times did they end their programming way too early and there was a couple hours of static? Very unprofessional. Comedy Central has a better programming director, maybe Discovery should bring them over. At least my cable provider was smart enough to realize it wasn't the new episode and put up a local infomercial in its place. So for some reason they knew it was a repeat or just the local cable company is an avid MB fan and are just as tired of this as we all are. You're right Mythmod. We can use the Contact Us link, send letters, call, use the forums, complain, or anything else but the fact of the matter is it will never fix this. quote: you can email Discovery Channel using the contact link

I would like to add that I am also very disappointed at the decision to changed the air date so close to the show. I understand that advertising is very important to the Discovery channel, but so are the people that watch the show. I would not be so disappointed if they changed the date of next weeks show giving some warning but leaving this weeks air date the same. I'm sure someone at discovery calculated how much add revenue they would loose by airing tonight, but the thing I'm sure they couldn't include is the cost of upsetting many of the fans. The unfortunate thing for us fans is financially they probably still made the right decision meaning they probably would do it again in the future. This decision though shows that the fans may not be that important to the Discovery channel. I hope that Discover gets a true idea of how many people are upset by changing things with so little notice and realize that they should at least provide an apology and a good explanation as to the decision and financial hardships, if not some sort of something to try and make it up to the fans. Of course I hope they never make such an ill advised stunt again.
P.S. I waited to go get dinner to watch the new episode. Now I'm hungry and got stuck watching a re-run I have seen.

MythBusters Viral Hour TV-PG, CC
On this infectious episode of Mythbusters, we give internet 'viral videos' a timely check-up. They're exciting, funny, and sometimes barely credible. We can't wait to pass them on to our ten best friends, but can we truly believe everything we see?

Well, I think this whole thing is:
DISAPPOINTING. Yeah, I was looking forward to this too.
HANDLED UNPROFESSIONALLY. Definitely. Even if there was some compelling reason to yank an episode at the last minute, there was no reason not to yank the promo for the episode from the feed once the decision was made.
CONFUSING. Why is this happening? We don't know, because the only real info that's been given to us is that it's not airing tonight, and, well, Skippy, I figured that one out four hours ago. Discovery didn't even care enough about the show's fans to put the information that MM gave us in a crawl on the screen. The only thing that we know from the forums is that it won't be new next week, either.
AVOIDABLE. If this is about the Olympics, I'll point out to Discovery that the Games were scheduled seven years ago. So, way to stay on top of things. If it's not about the games, then it's well past time to tell us that.
I am not going to lose sleep over this, and it'll air when it airs, and I hope that the TiVo doesn't think it's already recorded it (since it's quite positive that it recorded the viral myth episode). I do know that while it's never good to jerk your loyal viewers around, there's another side to that: well, no, there is no other side to that. It's just not a good idea, period.

I don't know who would want to watch the olympics when China is so obviously cheating. Using underage girls in the gymnastics and the judges being partial. It may support China by watching but it certainly doesn't support the United States. I hope everyone has learned a lesson from this and never lets them hold the Olympics there again. They were supposed to be showing the rest of the world what China was all about. Well I guess now we know. I hope they enjoy their fake medals.

We are disappointed tonites episode wasnt aired and we are disappointed that there was NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER.
Does this make any sense to you????????

Again this isnt about you. We know you have NO control over the episodes. We are upset with the network, and the decisions they have made. We know you werent involved with the decision. What i dont know is if you realize that we are upset with discovery channel and their lack of an explanation. this is not about you.

Oh gosh....When I went downstairs to see the new Mythbusters recorded episode, I was like "WTF". I check the 30 and 45 min marks and the old episode didn't end. So I pressed stop and deleted the recording.
Obviously Discovery didn't understand that some people thing the Olympics suck. And some people have Mythbusters at a higher priority than the Olympics. Now, I'm very disappointed, of course, because not even in the recording was I warned that Mythbusters new episodes would be moved to this date and that date. I would have been happier. I would even be happier if I saw Adam and/or Jamie say it.

Heh... I know what we all could do. Head over to the idea submission and in the Ideas: Everything Else submit a myth to test.
"I heard on this television network called Discovery Channel that there are new episodes of Mythbusters. Some people claim they will be shown but I doubt they exist..."
Or something to that effect.

Come on people, we will live through all of this bad news coming from disco of choosing not to aired the Mythbusters episode that we had waiting days and month to see them. Is not a matter of life and death, yes I'm super fan of their show see it every week if I can, but 27 pages of complaint is unacceptable to me rather than the episodes not airing today because it just a bit pointless because it won't force disco to air anything at all. I have to agree with mythmod, getting angry at her or at MB because an episode didn't get aired because disco decided not to is not gonna do anything. All the complaints and ranting is not gonna cause disco to aired the episodes iether today nor tomorrow. We will have just to for two more weeks that it will pass so fast that people complaints will vanish throughtout time that many people will forget that this happened.
