The "Heidi Bowl" comes to mind. Not quite the same, but they angered a LOT more people.

Whoa, this is NOTHING compared to the Heidi Bowl. That's one of the funniest stories in Pro football IMHO.

There's a time limit on edits. About 8 minutes or so, I think.

I agree.

In college ball, it's got to be "The Play" at the end of a Cal-Stanford game. I was only 2 when the Heidi Bowl happened, but I remember "The Play" well.

Ooh, that's a good one. And thankfully, it's available on Youtube. I won't threadjack by posting a link, but it's easily found.

While I'm sure you're right, I can't think of a single other channel or show where this has happened. What examples do you have for us?

Charlie Jade on Sci Fi moved from 8 pm Friday evenings to 3 am Tuesday morning without so much as a whisper! That was about 7 weeks ago. It happens daily, do you not watch much TV besides Mythbusters? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Wink

They must be looking for a reason to cancel that one. If they tried that here, I'm confident the Internet would explode.

I can assure you that I watch more TV than any person should. Still, I haven't noticed these things happening. Maybe I'm just oblivious...

The first quote is pestering, plain and simple.

Anyway, lastsummoner wants reasons so here goes;

With the Olympics in full swing Discovery felt that they should wait until it has finished as their target audience is more likely to be watching that.

Discovery is planning an advertising campaign for its shows during or after the Olympics and feels that it would be better to air the new shows after the adverts have started.

Discovery doesn't want to waste time screening new episodes in the middle of the holiday season. They've decided to put them back a few weeks for when people have come back off holiday, without any money left, and are therefore are more likely to watch the show.

Discovery has pushed the shows back a few weeks as by this time more new episodes will be ready, or almost ready, to air. This might allow them to air several weeks of new episodes during sweeps, or as a way to satisfy the advertisers who may not be too happy at buying airtime when the episodes screened are all re-runs.
The current method of airing episodes in blocks may be putting off viewers as well, since they may not always been aware of when new episodes will be aired - and frankly are unlikely to bother looking when it can be a few months between new episodes. Discovery may be attempting to hold off so they can air more new episodes over a longer period of time to help viewing figures, and also so as not to disappoint fans who may miss new episodes simply because they are not aware of when they are going to be aired.

The episodes in question may need to be re-edited after problems with the original tapes.

They may still be waiting for authorisation to show footage of secured facilities if they have filmed in them.

Shows can't be aired without the signature of one man...who unfortunately laughed at Jamie's facial hair and who isn't expected to be able to hold a pen until a week before the new dates.

The subliminal messages Discovery places into its programs were, for some reason, missing from the tapes and have to painstakingly placed back in before airing.

The Aliens who've taken Discovery over as the third stage in their plan for the destruction of mankind are still trying to work out how to use the video recorders.

Discovery's CEO took the tapes with him on holiday, not realising they would be needed. No one is willing to call the boss up, so they have to wait for him to get back.

The Illuminati want people to get worked up by not airing the shows. In reality all the episodes for the rest of this season, and most of the next, are ready to air...they just don't want us to see them yet....

They put the episodes back because they can.

Those are all good reasons, cybermortis, though many have been disproved in the thread. Especially the Olympics, I don't buy that for a minute. Nobody watches the Olympics.

Personally, I think it's a conspiracy between the Rand corporation and the reverse vampires.

-24 was postponed indefinitely b/c of the writer strike. I don't even want to SEE their message board... Wink

-An episode of Moving Up on TLC (never seen it) was postponed when a person featured on the show died unexpectedly. Hopefully that's not the case here.

-In 2001, the West Wing premiere was delayed b/c of the anthrax attacks. But everyone was too busy being freaked out of their minds to notice.

Thank you very much. So thus far,,, we have two documented cases of a show being postponed because of a writers strike, one because someone died, and one because of a terror attack. All of this on different channels, over the span of many years, and all offered up explanations.

But on this one channel we have numerous documented accounts of the same exact mistake. Several of which occurred withing the same FY, and even more that occurred withing the last year and a half, and at least thrice without an explanation.

Thus the point I was attempting to make.

And of course this is only my opinion but lucky for us, as of right now we are still allowed to have opinions.

So none of my comments (well except for the calling the one person a moron for a blatant disregard of the Terms of service) were personal attacks.

If your screen name begins with "the" and ends with "troll", then you are a moron. If you read carefully what I said, you'll see that I'm not calling any individual a moron. Well except for thetroll, he's a moron for his moronic logic.

So as you can see, I've never called anyone a moron, and if you can't see that then you are a moron.

Sci-Fi did it last week, they moved an SG Atlantis episode and said that it was because they didn't want to go head-to-head with the Olympic opening ceremony (it didn't stop them from running new programming during the games, Eureka and SGA were both new this week). Their SGA next-show-scenes from two weeks ago said "In two weeks...", so they knew they were going to put it off.

NCIS, when it started on CBS, had a postponement. Their first actual episode wasn't ready (even though the promo said it was... but if you give me two minutes of dailies and access to the voice guy, I could put together a show promo, it's not rocket science... yes, I have worked TV and most recently in radio), so they ran an edited "In The Beginning" which was an hour-long edit of the two-part JAG episode that kicked off NCIS (for those who don't know, NCIS was a JAG spinoff, and the pilot was actually a two part JAG episode).

There are two examples (I had already posted them some time back).

Of course it's a throwaway screen name. If I wanted to be taken seriously in these forums, I wouldn't be posting messages in this thread calling people morons.

Read that last sentence carefully and see if you can think of anyone else that might apply to.

The mod already posted about arguing in here. Some of us would like to discuss DC's epic fail. You are a senior member of this forum, and frankly you aren't setting a good example.

The attitudes of some forum members here have done more to turn me off of this show than the episode postponment. When you act like that, you chase off the good people and dare the worst to stay out of spite.

Let me put it this way. You and your girlfriend make reservations at the swanky restaurant that you guys have wanted to dine at for years. Your reservation is for 9pm. You arrive at 9pm only to be told that they changed your reservation for 12am and you'll have to pay for your meal in advance. Would you like that? Probably not. The Advertisers paid for that time slot. They're not going pay the same money for late night time as they would prime time. Less money for advertising - less shows produced.

MythMod

So your saying they did it because they expect a larger number of people to watch and they are looking for some company's willing to pay top dollar for ad's. So they delay the show and start an Ad bidding war. Just the fat cats filling their pockets with gold and the year old Lambo is so last year time for a new one lol.

We need discovery to release a statement about Wednesday nights fiasco.

They need to at least give the fans an explanation.

Come on Discovery Channel, why must you take us for granted. Frown
