I watched the episode on duck tape.
BTW: it was awesome! I didn't know how much duck tape could handle....
Anyways, I was wondering if it's bullet proof.
It can lift cars, fix boats, be a boat, and even be a cannon and live to tell the tale. But can it be bullet proof? Can, no matter how much duck tape is needed, it be hit by a bullet from any gun and leave the object, if there is one, behind the duck tape unharmed? And how much damage will be done to the duck tape?

I was wondering the same thing.

ditto on the awesomeness of the duct tape episode. I was also wondering about it being bullet proof.

AND, I was also wondering more specifically whether duct tape could outperform hard armor for preventing concussion and/or shrapnel damage for IEDs. I know that is a harder test than testing for bullet proof, but think of the opportunity for carnage. :-)

No, its not. Even a BB gun will go thru it. Maybe if you layered it and cross weaved it but it would be much heavier by volume and much less flexible than the armor types being used today.

It's duct tape, not duck tape. Although it was pretty cool that it indeed used to be called duck tape.

I was wondering about this myself after all it did survive a cannon blast. Why not a gun shot.

Enough of anything can be bullet proof. I seriously doubt that the amount of duct tape required for effective protection from bullets would be thin, light, or flexible enough for any practical usage.

We've been talking about this at work, so we are going to put it to the test. Started working on an 8"x8"x1" sheet of duct tape and then take it to the range. We'll be sure to take pics and vids to share with you guys!

I saw the duct tape episode and I have to say it was pretty awesome. But I was just wondering where the duct tape failed to hold up a boats leak when they fixed it in the water they DRILLED a hole in the boat. if you actually hit a rock or something it would not be a perfect hole. I want Mythbusters to re-do that part but otherwise the episode was AWESOME.

The tape itself is already cross woven, so I'm not sure that would really help. Maybe going at 45 degree angles would make it slightly better, but I don't think the effect would be much.

Ultimately the tape won't be "bullet proof" so much as provide a place to trap and stop the bullets. But I'd bet it would have to be pretty thick, several inches at least.

but they sed it in a very bad way if you ever have to fix a hole with duct tape you make a plug first and then seel it you dont ever try to stick it on water

Yes, Duck Tape is bullet-proof just like saying wood or paper is. With enough, anything can stop a bullet. It's NOT a practical application for the wonder-tape, though. Here's a link to the video we made to prove it. YES, we actually made a giant stack of tape and shot it with various calibers.
