Great Episode! My kids and I tried it and got about a 10' eruption. We had fun with this. Thanks for a safe few minutes of science fun. Sugar free Mentos don't seem to work as well.

what about diet coke with splenda instead of aspartame or crushing up the mentos instead of leaving them whole?

I think that this should be revisited because when the guys tried to get the stomach to explode they forgot to factor in that there would be stomach acid plus whatever the person ate. My point being that the stomachs that you used were 100% empty, if these stomachs were filled with about as much stomach acid would be in an "empty" stomach than there would be less room for the reaction to fill. Keep up the good work we're all counting on you to show us the line between Busted, Pluasible, and Confirmed.

Hi, I just watched the show about the Pepsi and Mentos and it reminded me of something my cooking teacher said. If you drink baking soda mixed with water for upset stomach that your stomach could explode. Has this myth ever been busted? Has anyone else heard of this? Thanks.

That was a awesome show, I once put smarties in a bottle on regular Pepsi and it made a explosion. Can you test how this happened?

the next time trying the Diet Coke and Mentos and make a rocket out of it try doing it with a 20oz bottle not a 2liter bottle, I belivel you will get your mentos coke rocket, you guys are right about the weight of the 2 liter bottle with coke but do try it with a 20oz bottle.

During this episode, there's a short bit where they build a really tall tower of methane bubbles and set them on fire. What I am wondering is, given the danger of using methane, could you do this with helium and leave out the fire part. And, if so...how high could you make the tower of bubbles? I'd like to see them go to an indoor stadium or the Boeing building in Seattle and see how tall the tower could go in perfectly still conditions.
Any reason why this wouldn't be possible...and a lot safer?

We know that the toilet bowl cleaner and drain cleaner bombs actually work and are very dangerous, albeit cool. But here is the Myth: I've also heard that the chemical reaction in the "works bomb" creates Hydrogen thus potentially creating a larger bomb if it explodes near a flame source.

If someone could come up with a way to close the cap then drop in the mento(as if it were inside the cap and you thumped it or something) would it have enough pressure to bust the bottle????

anyway i was taking an interest in the diet coke and mentos thing until you guys just did poor science. you put a glazing over the mentos to see if that would stop the fizzing, and then aclaimed that to the fact that this proved nucleation sites were aiding the expulsion of CO2. That is bad science, sorry guys!! All that proves, is that the coating dosn't aid in the expulsion of gas. I mean come on, you covered up the mentos!!!!! how is the mentos supposed to react through a coating! you did not prove, in any way, that the number of nucleation sites is correlated to the amount of "eruption". Why don't you try smoothing out the surface and doing some AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) to prove your surface is smoother than say, a skittle, which does little to nothing (i think?).
please consider what your claim before you claim something false.
Thanks,
Seth
Well me and a couple of my friends were gonna do the diet coke and mentos but we didnt have mint mentos and tropical mentos dont work so we went to my friends mom and she gave us this medicine[Idont know what its called but] that works pretty well and it has the same surface as the mint mentos.

do u guys remember the diet coke and mentos episode when adam and jamie couldnt make the rocket? well if u do u would kno that it did not work...but this shows that a diet coke and mentos rocket can work if u just put mentos in the bottle and close it but not all the way and then throw it to the ground aiming the bottom of the bottle away from you
that is all

I think that they should definitely test different kinds of soda not mento. I think it's the soda that matters. By my testing, Diet Mountain Dew shoots its fizz fountain way farther than Diet Coke. I foresee a Diet Coke Soda and Mentos episode coming up
