I think that they should revisit it because if you remember the guy eats the mentos before he drinks the soda so maybe if the mentos are already in there then once the soda goes in then maybe it will have enough time to react.

I have made a experiment myself...You take a liter bottle fill half of it with apple vineager[it doen't react that fast] and a quarter baking soda.close the cap and shake it up.I was throwing bricks at it and the bricks would bounce off. Smile

Hey, I'm new here so ill just come right out with it... In the diet coke and mentos exploding stomach episode when Grant, Karrie, and Tori(sorry if i misspelled your names) the video showed that the man chewed the mentos up before drinking the coke, AND ate the MENTOS before the COKE... the loss of CO2, in my opinion, happened when the coke hit the stomach acid, so if you put the mentos in first, then the coke you would get a better reaction. I guess that's all...

Sincerely,
Hal Jones

I have to agree with Elarie. Grant, Kari, and Tori all messed up this myth by not following the exact order of how both were digested. Any way, the mentos would take longer to get to the stomach than the soda. So as the soda enters the mouth, it will pass through the mentos releasing Co2 then reaching the stomach.

ok. When it comes to the mentos exploding a stomach test, according to the video they watched the man ate the mentos first, then chugged the diet coke, whereas in their experiment they put the diet coke in first then added the mentos.....

I love Mythbusters. But on your recent Coke and Menthos episode inspired by the internet video of the guy whose stomach was damaged when he ate Menthos and swallowed Coke, I think you missed the right combination in your attempt to bust the myth. You only added the Menthos AFTER you poured the Coke in the substitute stomach, but the guy in the video ate the Menthos BEFORE he drank the Coke. By putting the Menthos in the stomach first, you eliminate the problem you encountered of the CO2 dissipating before contact with Menthos. When Menthos are in the stomach first, the CO2 is created as the Coke makes contact with them. I think that sequence of mixing would have had a much better chance of bursting the stomach.
Regardless, I still love Mythbusters.

The guy in the video actually did two videos, wearing different shirts. In one he ate the mentos first then the coke, in the other it was reversed. Since the same guy was in both videos it makes the story about him being hospitalized dubious. If you eat the mentos first the fizzing starts immediately and stops the DietCoke from being swallowed.

I have a problem with the grenade segment on this episode (aired as a repeat 5/4/08). The analogue that "jumped" on the grenade HAD NO BONES! wouldn't there be tons of bone shrapnel to hit/wound/kill his friends standing around him? I think the team should revisit this one soon with an analogue that has real bones in it.
I was very disappointed that Jamie and Adam did not think of this. I still love the show and worship them both individually : )

they tried using a pigs stomach to see if mentos and coke would explode but what if they attached two soda bottles in a way to hold the mentos in the top bottle and the coke in the bottom and allowed them to mix with little space for the gases to escape... what would happen then?

I just watched the episode where Adam and Jamie try, and fail, to make a bomb out of mentos and a bottle of Diet Coke. They failed because they could not recap the bottle quickly enough. Just wondering if anybody has tried the following technique: glue a candy to a small magnet place magnet and candy inside the cap. Hold the candy in place using another magnet on the outside of the cap. Recap the bottle remove the outer magnet thus allowing the candy to fall into the soda.

I use to work for a Coca Cola company here in up state New York and did the mentos and diet Coke expirment and it went well. i did it in the warehouse for some of the people working. They loved it. But then I wounderd what my fav. soda (D.r Pepper) with a warning lable on it would do. So i tried it, and only put 2 mentos in and it went 2x hier than the diet coke. I then went out to buy 5 two liters each and then conducted my own expierment. To mhy suprise Dr. Pepper works soooooooooooooo much better. A 2 liter of diet coke with 5 mentos goes just as hi as a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper with just 2 mentos in it. Please stop giving diet coke so much hype b/c its not all that great when you pull a prank on your wife. And maybe they will use it in a myths revisted episode.
