I heard (back in the 70's) of a guy that found a certain tuning fork that would emit the frequency that a radar gun would interpret as 55 mph, so he welded it to the bed of his truck. No matter how fast he was going, the resonance of the tuning fork would make the radar think he was going 55 mph. They finally got him for doing 55 in a 25, even though he was driving the speed limit.

hi, i'm a new member to the discovery site. I just saw the speed cam episode where the mythbusters try to beat the speed cam & cant. I think that there should be another episode on this because i know of a car that could probably beat the speed cam. its the worlds fastest production car, the 2009 SSC Ultimate Aero, it has a top speed of 270 mph! so hey guys, try it out again! here's a link to the car: SSC Ultimate Aero Thanks Much & cant wait to see it on a new episode! - NX-211

And do you really think that car would reach that speed on a city street? Or that the average driver could control it at that speed on a highway?

Mythbusters has tried alot of ideas on how to beat a speed camara but one.. I had an idea about something the made for the ipohen it a mirror portector.. if you build a frame around you plated and put the mirror protector over the plate u should be able to beat the camara.. but if you do this u have to put a few leds to light up the piece of plexi glass so u can see ur plate when your not trying to run a speed camara.. Oh and the leds have to be off when u run the speed camara... if its done correctly it should work like it does on the iphone.. here is a video of how it works... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qdcH4zgOzE

To all members but mostly to Jamie and Adam. I know you guys have visited and revisited this subject to death. But the the Traffic Cams here in Modesto, CA are mounted at traffic light level. In fact in most cases the almost directly above the cars as they pass buy. So I was just thinking here that the steeper angle would interfere with the cam ability to take a proper pic of the license plate as the speeder goes by.

I have heard of an explanation why Top Gear got the results they did and Mythbusters got the results they did. It seems that there are different standards for giving a ticket with a Speed Cam. In the U.S. you just need a radar reading and a photograph, I have heard that in England you need two photographs, if the cycle time of the camera is slow enough a very fast car could possibly get away before two pictures were taken.

Actually, Adam and Jamie discussed the one photo/two photo issue on the revisit. They also said that the 180 mph that beat the two-photo system on Top Gear would still get ticketed, thanks to only needing that single photo. They figured they'd need about 200 mph to avoid a ticket in the US.
The idea that someone is going to be going 200 mph down the highway so as to avoid getting caught by the speed camera, yet can ALSO avoid notice by the cops - or anyone with a cell phone and access to 911 - is idiotic.

In most, if not all jurisdictions, placing anything over a licence plate is a chargable offence, along with obscuring it.

I have seen the video where they addressed it form a side angle at 5' and 10' but not at the angle where the Cameras are 16' to 20' above the the drivers unless I missed it, in-witch case can some give me the link to see that particular Video. You know the one where to "Speed Cam" or "Traffic Cam" positioned directly over the traffic not to the side. Or maybe there really haven't done And you just trying to dismiss the subject all together.

I have recently Found out that the Cameras here in Modesto well the one I was talking about the one that are mounted right next the the traffic lights or Red light Cam for people that tend to run run red lights. I still think that due to that fact that they are mounted that high that the magnifying plate cover or one of the other one's can fool those cams. I would test this theory out but for two reason: One I don't have a Car and Two I would want to get a ticket any way for having something that Obstructs my License plate.

I posted a thread "Busting the Radar Gun" on 10/03/2009 and in there is a way to fool the radar gun. If you use a motion detector from the front door of a grocery store, like foodlion, and hook it up and mount it to your dash, it will send back random numbers to the radar gun. the same reason they make your radar detector go off everytime you pass an automatic door is the same reason they will mess up the radar itself. i read it some time ago, dont remember where

Surfnc, this isn't twitter. If we want to know what you've posted, we can simply go to those pages and/or do a search on your name.
MR.Syl, They tried that and found they couldn't get the door to roll down.
