Jamie's Thermite beats Adams wee explosion anyday. I'd love to see them set off a compacted and tamped 1000 pounds of thermite.

Re: End with a bang...

Why decide which is better? Why not combine the two? I think they should have started the thermite with a bang, and had more bottles of gasoline placed throughout the truck, so that as the thermite burned to them, we would get more bangs. I think that would be the ultimate finish. (...and maybe some more destruction by dropping the truck from an extreme height would be nice too).

I like the bike boom as well.

Probably the best way to cut a car in two is by another boom, see the Futureweapons episode that used water-focused shaped charges =]

hit the groun running all wrong. not about speed, but about safety. it goes back to boxcar hobos jumping out of moving train. to jump out and simply land on your feet or tuck and roll would be more dangerous to your limbs and head. to jump out running was much safer

I don't have a problem with blowing things up if it is related to the myth. but tonight's episode bothered me because they blew up/burned things just for the heck of it releasing lots of black smoke into the air for no good reason. In a time where environmental issues are at the forefront, especially on several other shows on the same network, this seemed hypocritical, harmful, and downright unnecessary.

Yeah but coprolite isn't really poop. not any more. its minerals. with a lot of phosphates.

OK, When Jamie was measuring the gloss of the second poop ball, do you think he washed his hands before picking up the pencil and putting it in his mouth? Did anyone else catch on to this?

Ok primacord, not bad but doesn't make it into the MB pantheon of big bangs. 1K of thermite and Jamine even got the white shirt dirty to do it come on how often can you see that. I'd like to see them go back and show the remains after they cool and how long it took it to go cold. It would even be cool on a runing engine with a lesser amount.

end with a bang is only part of the phrase. it's "better to end with a bang than go out with a whimper". it's about the end of a fight or battle and you know you will loose or die. to go out fighting was to go out with a band (fire your guns and keep fighting to the very end) than to go out with a whimper (give up and beg for mercy).

Not bang was purely amazing! Very suitable for such an amazing show.

I think a bang is the coolest. I'm torn between 2 bangs in MythBusters-History: The cement truck from a previous season, and the tree cannon.... Smile Smile

while the non-bang was cool & pretty (looked like a lava), and actually more fun than the bike. however, i voted for the bang because of...Twister. that's right, the cement truck went boom (and goodbye). hehehe Big Grin

well i got to say that the boom was wonderful but the thermite well when i seen that my eyes were glued to the tv truly the best end to a show i have seen yet so unique 1000 lbs of thermite is like scooping up a portion of the sun and setting it down in front of you just to say what do you think.

how come no testing was done with both bike wheels in the air or all four car wheels? Confused

First, you always end with a bang. Second, the myth about hitting the ground running does not mean you start running then hit the ground. What it actually means is that the instant your feet touch the ground, you better start running, period. Although I have to admit, it was very funny watching a mythbusters' take on it.

Fantastic show. The polished p00 was amazing. The blowing things up was fun, and the hitting ground running was enjoyable to watch the crew make fools of themselves running around.

Also, what kind of suit was that Tory had?

I definitely think that the final boom would have been better if they combined both boom and doom by placing a charge underneath the suv and detonate the charge as the burning "lava" gets sprayed everywhere.

My problem with "hit the ground running" in the car, it *sounded* like the base runs from a dead stop were started without a foot on the gas. As any racer would tell you, you need to build RPMs before launching in order. In an automatic, left foot on the brake, right foot on the gas, and basically raising RPMs up to the point that the brakes can still hold the car from moving. There is usually an RPM level that will give you the best launch depending on the car (for example, my race car needs to be at about 5500 RPMs for launch). Granted, the myth was still busted, and in theory this should lower the base runs, which would not give a plausible or confirm, but was a flaw in the testing in my opinion.
