Adam and Jamie did very well in proving the validity of their results. I myself needed no convincing for the dropped bullet myth, so I am probably not very impartial.
I did have one question regarding Knock your socks off, however:
What would have been the possibility of a different result during the final explosive blast if the legs used did not have a fixed ankle? There have been occurrences of people losing at least shoes in car impacts.
Just a thought.

Drop vs. fired:

Valid.
The key would be to find the distance the fired bullet hits and would be different with different calibers and loads. Changing 1 perameter would knock evrything out of whack.

The difficulty of the study was faced head on and won. Good job.

To do a real time patch of a hole in a boat, they should have tried to fabricate a simple plug to jam in the hole since the adhesive is inefective when wet. A round drilled hole could use a simple rolled up tapered cone, shaped like a cork to plug the hole. An irregular hole like they had in the show could use a wadded up duct tape filler piece. You could even wrap up a sock or t-shirt or similar to make up the mass faster. This could be wrapped up oversize then compressed to fit in the opening, then maybe some layed over the make shift plug for extra measure. I believe it would definitely slow the leak down to where bailing out would be more reasonable and the boat could get back to shore.

As well, I would like to send a message to Jamie and Adam... I just watched the episode about duct tape, and saw something that kind of alarmed me, a little... I've done demo work in the military, and was a cop, and I tend to pay attention to details, and see some things others miss...

I noticed when they were loading the black powder into the tape cannon, the shotgun shell they were using to measure the powder has a live primer in it... It is not from a spent shell... Or a new casing, with the primer well plugged... If this can be forwarded to them, I would appreciate it...

I would like to point out one flaw in the duck tape boat. They are not the first to create a duck tape boat, nor is it as impressive in it's design. I have personaly used a duck tape boat, one which used only duck tape and a cardboard frame. Other than that it was a great episode that proved everything that I already knew about duck tape. Something I would like to see is the ducktape cannon firing a ducktape cannonball. I think that would be so cool.

RE: dropped vs fired bullet... the end result showed a very small difference in time between the bullets, which Adam minimized with a comparison to frames per second in a film. My question is, if two bullets were fired simultaneously, or dropped simultaneously, would the differences between the times of the identical events be in line with the difference they already observed in the different events? That way, we could get closer to knowing whether the number of microseconds of difference they observed is a "significant difference" or not.

Guys about the Sock myth...I think you should have stuck with the boxing motif. The shoes then would create enough surface friction to pull the sock off Buster, maybe.Or try cowboy boots.and focus more on upward force.Congrats Carey and Tory on the new addition!!Just kidding.Congrats Carey and the lucky s.o.g.Daddy!Do you guys hate the whole Carey/Grant thing by now...I digress, keep up the great show, love the explosions.Jamie and Adam, together you are the man!

In the bullet dropping/shooting test Adam mentioned that the human eye can not see more than 24 frames per second. Adam, you sir, are very very wrong. To make you eat your words, I hope you will do a myth busting on that very myth -- exactly how you described it -- and then try to answer how many frames per second the human eye can really see. Google it for some ideas.

I think the test was valid but I want to add yet another suggestion to it. Another physics demonstration is that gravity acts equally on objects. Therefore a feather in a vaccuum dropped at the same time/height as a bullet fired from a gun should also hit at the same time. Or a tennis ball, bowling ball, buster...

Out of curiousity, would a duck tape boat go any slower that a boat the same size and shape, or would the edges of the tape act as "ridges" like the Stars and Stripes boat that won the America's Cup race in 1987? As I recall, the "ridges" lowered water adhesion and alowed the boat to go faster.

bullet drop outstanding they might have been even closer if you used match loads. they use them for shooting competitions. they have more exacting wights so that every shot is same as last. mass produced shots may be off by 1 to 4 grains. just a thought

If I recall this problem posed in physics correctly .. one of the conditions of the experiment was operation in a vacuum .. considering the number of potential variables .. air density .. load size etc etc .. it's amazing they got their results to within 39msecs ..

In the duck tape one with the ducktape boat what would happen if it was in a storm and the water was choppy and what if it was all ducktape no steel.

The questions were apparently taken from the Episode Discussion threads that DCFanMod had started for discussing the episode.

In other words, you just post here normally.

they got the drinking rhyme wrong
it's not "beer you're in the clear, beer and liquor never sicker"

it's "beer before liquor, never sicker - liquor before beer, you're in the clear"

soooooo true! been there, done that!
