Didnt Adam and Jaime's team already prove no one could take flight from balloons.
ok so why this on msn right now July 10, 2007
Man floats 193 miles using chair, balloons Oregon resident fulfills childhood dream with 105 helium balloons Balloons suspend Kent Couch in a lawn chair as he floats in the skies near Bend, Ore., on Saturday. Oregonian floats 193 miles using chair, balloons BEND, Ore. - Last weekend, Kent Couch settled down in his lawn chair with some snacks — and a parachute. Attached to his lawn chair were 105 large helium balloons.
Destination: Idaho.
With instruments to measure his altitude and speed, a global positioning system device in his pocket, and about four plastic bags holding five gallons of water each to act as ballast — he could turn a spigot, release water and rise — Couch headed into the Oregon sky.

If I am not mistaken (and I could be) they said this WAS possible, BOTH times they did this kind of myth... one was using several large balloons and the other was using a ton of 'party' balloons.

I remember they did test it in the hanger but the had regular party balloons, this guy looked like he had pretty big balloons. I know they were able to get the little girl off the ground but they used prob. over 200 or so...I think they should do a retest and see what they get.

Watch the show and read the postings. They did it. They made a chair fly/float. Why do they need to revisit it AGAIN. If you watch the thing on MSN, MYTH CONFIRMED.

Please, please, PLEASE, people who watch the show with at least SOME regularity post to the people who see one or part of an episode and start blasting away!!
Why, when a myth is confirmed, do people still think it needs to be done AGAIN?
They did it with the chair and said it would work, might not work well, but it worked.
They did it with a obscene amount of party balloons and said it was possible, not likely but possible.
Someone who watches more than once a month please back me up.

The naysayers need to get thier myths straight.
Myth: It is possible to fly using commercially available helium balloons and a lawn chair. Confirmed on the show. Lawnchair Larry was the first to become famous (infamous) with this one.
Myth: A child can be carried away by a bunch of helium filled Party Balloons. Plausible, but requires an insane number of balloons. No need to tether your kids at the park.

"slashdot" is correct. And I'll back you up "z_bolin".
Actually they got this one right, in part because they knew it had been done 25 years ago. They've done a couple different balloon myths, and the lawnchair with weather balloons was proven plausible. Lawnchair Larry did this back in 1982 and received a lot of attention at the time. He didn't plan on going as high as he did, but he actually made it up to 16,000 feet and was seen by the pilot of a commercial jetliner. He ended up getting arrested when he landed and fined by the FAA for violation of commercial airspace. You can read all about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawnchair_Larry.
I just checked http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/episode/00to49/episode_11.html and it indicates that pilot episode 3 of MythBusters is where they specifically tested what Lawnchair Larry did. Episode 21 is the one where they tried to lift a girl with a bunch of regular balloons.
Also, the myth they were testing really had to do with whether a grown adult (possibly a clown), heavy enough to stay grounded could hand a bundle of balloons to a small child, only to watch the child float away. With the mass of "regular" balloons it took them to get the kid off the ground, I would say they properly busted that specific balloon myth.

On the "Balloon Girl" episode, they looked so surprised that it took over 1000 more balloons than what they calculated. Apparently they didn't think that a few miles of string would weigh anything. What kind of scientific qualifications do these people have to be on this show?

None - Kari is an artist, Scottie a metal worker, and Tory a model maker for motion pictures. They've often said they learn as they go, with the viewers.
