Can you REALLY use your blue jeans to slide down a rope or wire to get away from the bad guy?

well it may work on a high wire...but the myth is if you get stuck on a ski lift can you escape by using your jeans...well who wheres jeans to go skiing? ski pants/snowboard pants my slide better on the cable...

why arnt they trying to grab both legs with one hand and the waist band with another? the crotch of a pair of jeans has the largest seam and by grabbing it both a leg in each hand, its almost piching that seam right on the wire. the seam is going to create the most friction!

I feel they should do this myth on a frozen wire. It might give the jeans less friction while ridding down the wire so it wouldn't just stop.

Agree with poster above - no one wears denim to ski - ski pants would need to be tried to confirm/dispell the myth.

usually when you see somebody wearing regular jeans when they are skiing are rookies and beginners. all the other skiers/snowboarders were regular ski pants. which are made more for the outdoors. Also the chair lift they did it on, the demi pants wouldnt work because the weather conditions are different. Summer/spring conditions are going to affect the cable different than the winder...snow season conditions! The snowpants we use are different materials and might not be as strong as demi jeans.

The wire probably wouldn't get much ice buildup because they have things sliding over it constantly.
Also, this would never happen because there would be another seat behind you, keeping you from sliding from the top to the bottom.
A better myth would be the end of Rush Hour 2, when they used their silk jackets to slide down a wire.

i agree, i think that a layer of ice on the cable would help the jeans slide down easier. using a form of snow pants or a heavy winter coat may also work

I would also like to add to my last post that the reasoning behind using a frozen wire is because, if you were on a ski slope, there would be snow, and the wire would possibly be frozen.

It definitely would seem that ski pants would cause less friction than plain ol' denim. And you'd have to be crazy to go skiing with nothing on your legs but jeans.

yeah, people dont wear jeans when they ski and snowboard, also why didnt you guys try with a belt? i think that might work better than jeans, and ive been to lake tahoe wehre you filmed that, i know at heavenly they have lifts at more of an incline than 25 degrees

OK I don't doubt the seat theory, but if the lift wasn't moving there wouldn't be anything to keep the wire from freezing.

pretty much what i came here to say anyone who spends time in the snow tends not to wear cotton. wool or synthetics hold in body heat when wet, cotton doesn't. now, my ski pants are cordura nylon. this change could potentially solve the ripping and friction problems they had with jeans

i agree 100% with js and korn... it makes no sense to use jeans instead of low-friction amd tear-resistant skipants. i was really surprised that they didn't take the myth to the "next level" and at least try it with different types of pants.
during the ski season the lift would be running more regularly and the cable would probably have more lubricant on it. and yes, it would also be colder thus reducing friction.
i'm actually pretty disappointed how poorly that myth was tested. hopefully they'll take it up again later.

ya'll are totally right no one goes snowboarding or sking in their jeans either snow pants or some kind of winter clothes. Also that there will be snow, either real OR fake snow which creates more oil on the wire. No one goes in the summer time. And if they tried holding the jeans/snow pants a different way other than in the crotch it would create less friction and probably slide better. I think this myth has to be done again correctly.

i agree the material in ski pants may cause less friction then the jeans and slid better.

Yeah I would have to agree on this being disappointing. I would also hope they go back to this and test it more in depth.

I actually believe someone could escape because there would be Snow/Ice/Water/Greese and when jeans get wet it increases the strength of the denim... ps i wear jeans all the time when i ski

I have to 2nd (3rd?) that. No one goes skiing in jeans except Texans, and not even they go in the Summer. To bust this, it has to be tested in winter conditions with ski pants.
