I have been trying to contact the AZ humane society, but they don't care about underweight, dying African Servals. Cats don't count in their opinion. I need help for someone trying to find her lost housepet African Serval. It is scared, losing weight rapidly, and in danger of dying thanks to animal cruelty. I need to get her in contact with the proper authorities!
Where the Serval has been hiding, the owner of the property has thrown out her food, water, and is threatening to KILL HER on sight! He won't allow the owner to enter to feed and water her frightened housepet. Other unhelpful helpers are trying to catch the wild cat by use of a belt around the neck (which would probably result in death), and the owner is beside herself with grief - she needs help NOW!
Please, who can I contact that will actually do something about this?
What is the person doing with an African Serval anyway? These are wild cats and don't do well at all in a household environment. I would try contacting Southwest Wildlife to see if they can help. I highly doubt the AHS will deal with this one because they don't deal with wildlife here. That falls to other organizations within our state. The Game & Fish Department and even Liberty Wildlife might also be able to help.
If I'm not mistaken, having any wild animal as a household companion is possibly illegal and requires a special permit. If your friend doesn't have one, then he/she could be breaking the law here both state and federal.
The owner of the property could be cited for animal cruelty and other charges. Where exactly is this cat exactly? You didn't state where in Arizona or even the Phoenix area this cat is. That would be helpful.
Well Cat Man you are right on the money! I don't want anyone to think that the AZHS does not care about cats because that is just flat out not true! We have four in our home alone not to mention our fosters!
I know of someone who saw an African Serval this weekend ... I have her name and phone number email me at Lorla@aol.com and I can get you that information
