I read an article recently saying red and black inks used for tattoos have a high metal content. This means any body part with those tattoo colors on it cannot have an MRI scan at the hospital. The article said the MRI heats up the metal in the ink and causes severe burns underneath and around the tattoo. Is this true?

I just saw the same mythbusters, and I have had an MRI (thank goodness the myth was busted)!
The myth was exploding tattoos. Wouldnt that be a site. Anyhow most tattoos done within the past 10 years will not have a negative affect in an MRI. It is the Iron Oxide used in older tattoo inks that causes the iritation. The magnetic force in an MRI iritates more than anything. And i just realized they sent you to another Topic for info. Sorry
Although I firmly believe the episode about the tattoo in the MRI, my girlfriend's mom insists that the tattoos that are supposed to explode are prison tattoos because they use completely different inks than tattoo shops.
