it dosent matter what the name of your high dollar machine is if you cant tune it ya know. it could cost 1300 and make lines like runny snot or cost 150 and make the most consistant line ever its not cost its control. i have a mickey sharps ,a couple ult. light ,a wasp, and a couple classics from spalding. nothin fancy but ive got clients bringing new clients. just make your machine work for you
well to be honest most machines come set up already now adays. i have 2 paco rollins and one hand built machine wich i built myself. but all people seem to ask me is can i build them a machine that looks like the ones in miami ink so what i thought was to build the frames and let them put the parts on themself... that way no scratchers are going to be buying from me because most have no idea what they even need or how to set the machine up lol
I agree with a65belair, but you have to admit that some machines are superior to others. If the tube vice tends to turn the tube cockeyed or doesn't hold well, if its got bad terminal rings, weak connections on the coils, crappy springs... alot can be said about a well built machine. That being said, you don't have to pay a ton of money for a well built machine either. Like alot of other things, tattoo machines can be status symbols (whether they're really worth it or not)
i always say the handbuilt machines are the best, actually every machine i own is custom made lol. but money wise they are expensive... well some aint too bad but some are waaaay over priced, best thing to do is build your own even if you buy a frame instead of building one its a hell of alot cheaper than buying a custom machine, plus you can choose what parts you put on wich all parts are very cheap apart from the tube vise and coils wich still aint bad prices but the top 2 at the price range
yup i do ricicles but the machines the scrathcers are using arent danny fowler, soba, caine, rollins etc etc there cheap ebay ones... but miami ink has deffinatly affected tattooing for the worse. people seem to watch it and think just anyone can buy a cheap kit and tattoo. i know ALOT of artists in uk hate the miami ink guys for exposing the secret art of tattooing but on a upside there getting all the business of covering up crap scratchers have done from being obsessed with miami ink lol
the downside is that it is going to be off putting for a lot of people because of it! When I am in Dublin, I drink in a pub called the Foggy Dew, this is an inkers pub and hangout for the artists in the area, you won't get these guys watching MI! In fact they have the same opinion as the UK artists as to the show. Saying this it has taken tattooing from being a dark art to some thing that everyone is now aware of. I just wish that folk that post here stop asking the same stupid questions and learn how to use a forum - FAQ and FIND folks!
thats true but theres always a upside for it too, i dont know any real artists in uk who have even seen 1 episode lol. iv probally seen 3 or 4 episodes and thats only because i can put my oppinions to one side and happily watch tattooing. its the only show in uk that shows tattooing so im gonna carry on watching on it.. well when i can be botherd lol, im glad i did though because i found out alot about the artists there and there not so great as the show tries to make out. like ami put halfs on the shop and set up with miami ink producer who has no idea about tattooing i think thats pretty funny and shows how money hungry they are lol. they wanna show that on the show and see how many visitors they get. plus there prices are insanely high. im suprised they get any clients at all
