Hi, I'm new to the forums and don't have any tattoos yet, but I was thinking about getting a small one on the inside of my wrist. However, there are alot of visible veins under the skin, and since the skin on your wrists is so thin, I was wondering about the safety of getting one there. I see people with wrist tattoos all the time, but none seem to have prominent veins like I do. Does anyone know if it's possible to hit a vein and get ink poisoning? Thanks in advance!

Probably best to have a chat to the artist you are thinking of getting this done with.

They can have a look at your wrist and advise accordingly

Hey, I just go my first tattoo on the inside of my right wrist. I have pretty visible veins and ligaments too. My wrist is pretty small, thin. My girl had no problem at all. She did mention that sometimes wrists need touch ups after they heal, but that was about it. I agree, just ask. Good luck! Big Grin

Cool, a Fleur de lis! Where do you live? I am from New Orleans, so I love the fleue de lis. Good luck! Mine hurt, but since it was my first one I have nothing to compare it to. They all hurt, to a certain extent, right? Wink Enjoy!

If you can handle ribs you can handle anything!!! I haven't done ribs and I won't so you are braver than me!! I've done my feet, comparable to ribs, I've heard and my feet are very lean...My artist was like " I can feel every bone and tendon and muscle" I said "You are scared for me arent' ya?" "NO, well a little" It was really nothing...it was sensitive but nothing to worry about..I felt a sharper sensation that was it...you'll be fine.

There are millions are tattooed wrists out there and every one is vascular and has tendons. The artist will have to slow down a bit as the area is not flat and smooth like the outside of your arm, but that should not pose a problem.

Ruby, you know you want to get the ribs done. The piece on your hip is just a hand's breath away from some prime rib territory...dive in and get it done. :P

Hop...nope...torso is done...I think my piece is perfect and so does my artist...I don't want to mess it up...and I think doing another piece on my torso would look messy...nope...nope...I think I'm full of it... :P..we'll see...morbid curiosty is my downfall...

aside from the constant burning sensation, it should be no problem. but consult w/ the artist first.

One thing to remember that the Ink used for tattooing is not actually ink, but pigment. It's non toxic and is pretty safe, even if a tiny bit is injected into the bloodstream. Find a good artist before getting your wrist done. A good artist knows the layers and depths of the skin and can easily inject the pigment under the translucent dermal layers without harming a vein and causing a bruise. On the wrist, there is little to no fat, so the pain will be a little more intense. Just find a happy place and enjoy!
