Most do cost money and can get to be very expensive. The reason why it can be expensive, through my experience, is a lot of time is spent learning and drawing and watching and taking art lessons, seminars, classes, that you really have time for nothing else....like a paying job. Don't let any of this detour you, you have already takin the first step in becoming a true artist, getting that apprenticeship.

It depends on a lot of things and you will probably get diffrent answers in diffrent shops and diffrent partd of the country but in most cases (it cound also apply to other trades such as stunt man in movies etc) you do work around the shop such as cean up, gofer, and in return they teach you a trade and in some cases you may even get a few bucks to live on. I have no idea if minimun wage laws apply to apprenticeships
