Name: Dave Age: 30 Occupation: TV Production Interests: Road Racing: I have been participating in HPDE club events for the past 7 years, the past 4 as an instructor. I have over 160 track days under my belt (about 80, 2 day weekend events). I typically drive with NASA and MSCW (also Mazda Drivers). Autocross: Sort of like road racing, but safer and slower. It is a road course set up in a parking lot using cones (gates). It is like a ski slalom, but with cars. These events are timed, and there are car classes to make things fair. How Did I start this hobby? I went to a HPDE event (High Performance Driver Education) to watch after I graduated college. I thought it was pretty cool, just seeing all the different sports care in one place was cool. Then I asked an instructor for a ride. After that I was sold! 2 weeks later I bought my first car (the one I still have now, '97 Miata), put a roll bar in 2 weeks later and 3 months after my first ride with that instructor I was driving in my first track event. It is like crack, once you start, you can't stop! Ride: 1997 Montego Blue Mazda Miata Modifications: Jackson Racing Header, Racing Beat Intake, TODA Racing Flywheel, MAX 5 Clutch, Peter Ferrell Cat Back, Bilstein Spec Miata Shocks, Spec Miata Coil Over kit, 700# springs in front, 350# springs in the rear, Lowered 2", Stainless Steel break and clutch lines, SCCA Legal Tow Hooks, Hard Dog Hard Core roll bar, Sparco Evo Race Seat, Simpson 5 pt harnesses, Koyo BIG Radiator, 2 sets '97 wheels with 195/55/14 Hoosier R3S05 tires for the track, '99 wheels with 205/50/15 Falken Azena 215, Hard Top, Front Spoiler, IOPort Video Camera Mount.
After a few years of driving this blue car, I bought a red one and prepped it for real wheel to wheel racing, but sold it 2 years layer to a friend who is racing it now with SCCA.
