If the film is as accurate as advertised, Diana would be alive today had it not been for al-Fayed. Security could not keep up with the thoughtless changes al-Fayed made to pre-arranged plans that night. Had he been an adult and played by the rules, this horrific tragedy could have been avoided.
What this fictional/documentary style of made for tv entertainment underscores is the arrogance of the Al Fayed organization which kow-towed to a very social climbing, rich, SOB. The ineffectual Dodi was paraded before the air-head Diana as a breeding bull for Mohamed's gain. That neither Diana or Dodi had any plan or purpose to their equally shallow lives was sadly all too obvious. In the end, the failure of these characters to effectively take a realistic look at the dangerous situation which they placed themselves is likely the cause of their demise, not the press, who were manipulated by greed, Diana's own silly desire for attention, and Dodi's lack of courage to stand up to his overbearing father.
As I've suspected all along, plain and simple....she got in the car with a drunk driver. So many things went wrong with the irresponsible security changes, no seatbelt. So tragic! And I also think, this program could have been just an hour.....no need to draw it out for 2-hours.
What became evident, which I am assuming from the eyewitnessess, (employees, people who were with them during those days), was that Diana viewed this as a vacation/opportunity to make Khan (and probaly Charles) jealous. The scene where she is on the phone the last day, rearranging her schedule, shows that Diana is ready to get back to business and her regular life. I thought it was significant that she told Dodi, "Grow up". Dodi seemed to become involved with her because he father wanted him to and Dodi did as he was told. Diana seemed to become more and more frustrated at the situation, change in plans, Dodi's whims. I'm sure her life was much more controlled, especially where her security was concerned.I'm glad the film didn't go into conspiracies and all the unanswered questions.
After viewing the film it seeems even more apparent if Diana had not been involved with Dodi she would have been alive today. But what really is more apparent is the fact of the papparazzi's crazy frenzy that drove them to their death. I blame the papparazzi and there should be a law against how they operate.
I do believe the bodyguards that said plans kept changing, and they did'nt know what was happening and that they felt they had no control. I also believe that someone was tipping off the media, and Dodi and Diana did not know whom. So that is why thay kept changing plans. That is why they made changes so quickly. I don't believe for a moment that Dodi acted alone with these decisions...Diana was not a puppet, and she was the one experienced with all the attention. She must have had input. I believe regardless of "playing by the rules " or not the outcome would have been the same.
