Dear Irwin Family,
You don't know me, but I used to watch
Steve on Animal Planet all the time. I learned so much from him, about Australia, about the environment, and about wildlife. His exuberance was infectious, and always made me smile. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. It can't be compared to the loss that so many of the rest of us feel, having never met him, but please, if it helps even a little bit, know that you don't mourn alone. I was terribly saddened the day I heard of Steve's death, and I am still saddened. What a wonderful man, who could inspire such feelings amongst millions who never had the good fortune to meet him. My deepest, deepest condolences to all of you. Please know that your husband and father made an incredible impact on the world, and has left a legacy which will endure for years to come.
