My wife and I would like to express our deepest condolences to Terri, Bindi, Bob and the rest of Steve's family and friends. Though I never met the man, I felt him a friend. The world is definitely less bright without Steve in it; he will be sorely missed by the millions of people he touched. I'm hoping that Steve's family will someday have a chance to read these posts and would like to share briefly how Steve touched my life.

My family owned a luncheonette/icecream parlor when I was growing up. In the mid-late 60's we had a frequent customer named Gunnar who spent many years living in Australia. As a boy of 5-6 I would sit next to him at the lunch counter whenever he came in and listen with rapt attention as he told stories of 'roos and dingos and traversing the bush in his Land Rover. I remember wishing desperately that I could go to Australia and relive some of the adventures he had so entertained me with. Time passed and eventually Gunnar returned to Australia and as so often happens, memory fades; not forgotten, but in the recesses of your mind.

Fast forward to adulthood... I'm flipping around the cable channels and come across this AMAZING man named Steve Irwin and became an instant fan. Watching Steve caused all those memories of Gunnar and his stories of Australia and its wildlife to come flooding back, and I knew that I just had to get to Australia one day. When, years and many Crocodile Hunter episodes and documentaries later, it came time to get married, there was only one place I wanted to go on my honeymoon -- AUSTRALIA. My wife and I spent 2 weeks traversing the eastern half of the continent and had the most amazing experience of our lives. Steve, thanks for motivating me to live out one of my childhood dreams. Oz, like you, is unforgettable.

We were unable to make it to the Australia Zoo during our honeymoon. We resolved that we would return to Oz one day to celebrate our wedding anniversary and that the zoo would be our first stop, hoping that Steve would be there and we'd have a chance to shake his hand, or at least catch a glimpse of him. Sadly, we've lost that opportunity. We hope that the Australia Zoo will continue to carry on Steve's legacy and that those fortunate enough to visit will be able to feel his spirit and draw inspiriation from this amazing man.

Good-on-yer-mate for a life well lived.

The sudden death of steve irwin was very surprising as he escaped death on previous ocasions, catching snakes, feeding croc's swimming with sharks and handleing the worlds deadliest spiders, i could hardly belive what the newscaster was telling me
surly it couldnt be THE steve irwin? could it just be a crazy fan? i can only imagine the pain his family are experiancing
i will pray his soul is at peace and i will be keeping all of steve's family in my thoughts and in my prayers
may they overcome this tradgegy and have a possitive outlook for the future

Heard the news this morning from my mum, also a fan. Don’t know anyone who didn’t appreciate Steve’s infectious personality and his passion for wildlife. He brought such enthusiasm to his subject and was both an entertainer and educator. The world doesn’t need to lose characters like Steve and it’s a huge loss which will be felt worldwide. Thoughts out to his family who will especially feel the loss of such a great character. A very sad day for the whole world.

It is terrribly sad, as i may add, that a great icon was lost to us this morning. My heart is crushed knowing that my childhood icon has past away. My spirit is lifted alittle knowing that we are starting a Irwin family fund and tribute. steve was a great man and he still is today even though he is no longer in our mists. But his cheerful spirit and all knowing accent will be in our mists forever.

If i could talk to the family and give my deepest sympathy.

WE WILL MISS YOU STEVE IRWIN

Somewhere a journey begins at the end of the worldly existence we know.
Somewhere a path stretches over the stars, and rivers of memories flow.
Somewhere a silence is heard far away and the brightness of day fills the night.
Where the trials of life are resolved into peace - when a soul finds its way to the light.
Where a spirit looks back with a new strength to watch over those of us left behind.

-- Steve's passing has sadden us deeply.
Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Terri, the children and his parents; as well as, his extended family.

May the GreatSpirits watch over you all, and give you strength during this sorrowful time.

Many Blessings,

My family and I were very saddened by Steve's death. My son Will (8 yrs old) especially loves Steve and actually can imitate his voice very well. He just adores watching him on TV and has his movie on video and watches it very often. I always thought of him as "invinceable."

My heartfelt sympathies go out to Terri, Bindi, Bob, his Dad and all the rest of the Australia Zoo family. He will be greatly missed by all of us who he has touched.

Dear Animal Planet, Terri, Bindi, Bob & the entire Irwin family,

My family and I are very deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Steve Irwin. He filled our house with such joy, even though it was on TV. We laughed, and my daughter cried (when he was bitten by an animal) and its such a horrible thing that happened to him. We send our sympathies and prayers to the Irwin family. We loved Steve very much and we will all definately miss him. He was the greatest and NO ONE in his profession could ever take his place. God speed and God Bless.

Like many others, I too was shocked and saddened to hear about Steve Irwin's untimely death. I have watched him here in the States for a number of years and my family is numb over this. As a teacher, I often spoke to my classes about Steve and my students loved watching his show. We all shared in his enthusiasm and longed to have the kind of passion that he displayed for animals and life. I often joked about how I would love to go to Australia, not so much to sight see, but just to hang out with the CRocodile Hunter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Terri and the children. The Prime Minister said that Steve was a national treasure, but his thoughts were too local. Steve was a global treasure and we will all miss him dearly.

In loving memory of Steve Irwin. I was devastated when I learned of his death and cannot imagine how his family feel. My husband and I feel that his loss was a terrible one, the world really needed more individuals like him.

May his beautiful soul rest in peace and may God bless and comfort and protect that of his family's. It is gonna be so hard to not see Steve on Crocodile Hunter. "Crikey" he will be missed, I grew up learning and looking at Steve's show on Animal Planet. So much evil in this world, Steve was the replica of a blessed and good person. I guess God needed him for something else.

I am so sorry Terry, Bindi Sue and Bob. He was one of the greatest person on this earth, and I have a felling that he will always be here, in Spirit.

So sorry

My husband and I are deeply saddened by Steve's death. We fell in love while watching his shows and discussing Steve's love of conservation. He feels like a member of our family and we feel the loss as strongly. We had hoped to meet him in a couple of years when we renewed our our wedding vows in Australia. We'll still renew our vows but now it will seem as if the friend who "introduced" us will not be there. We will miss him deeply. Our sympathies go out to his beautiful wife and precious children.

I don't think any of us have ever been so devastated by the loss of a television personality.

We send our condolences to Terri, Bindi and Bob, and to Steve's extended family at the zoo - keep up the wonderful work he began. Steve was an amazing man who grabbed life with both hands and made the most of every day, and we can't believe somebody so vital has gone.

I hope that his wife, Terri and children continue to carry on his positive message about nature and animals. My heart goes out to each of them, and his father, too!! I cannot believe that this larger-than-life man is gone! Steve, may you rest in peace.

I have never seen a public figure with so much passion for life and family. He dedicated his life protecting misunderstood animals that he passionately loved. His love of crocs was only preceeded by his love of his wife and his two beautiful children. My heart and prayers go out to Terri, Bindi and Bob. May Bindi and Bob grow up knowing what a wonderful person their father was. Terri, while you might never read these words, know hearts world-wide are sending our condolences. God bless you and yours. May Steve live on through the work he has done.

What horrible heartbreaking news to wake up to this morning! While it may be a common thing to feel you know someone simply because you have seen them on tv, with Steve Irwin that phenomenom was totally inescapable. He was always so vibrant, passionate and real about everything! I cannot imagine the pain, sadness and feeling of loss that his beautiful family and all those truly close to him are feeling right now. Not only have they lost a most beloved husband, father and friend, the world has lost so much as well. My thoughts, condolences, prayers - and so much more go out to Terri, Bindi Bob and all of Australia Zoo...the world will not be the same without Steve.

So sory to hear about the passing of Steve. He has helped to educate the world on our natural beauty and wonderment of the animal kingdom. He will be truly missed by children and adults alike. To Terri, Bindi, and Bob, as well as Steve's family, I hope that you can take solace in the fact that he will live on in the number of shows, and in the zoo that he so loved. May God bless you all.

To say we were shocked to hear of Steve's death this morning is an understatement. We have enjoyed Steve and Terri's adventures for many years and feel by the loss of Steve a friend of ours has been lost. We did not know what to say, as it is like a close friend is gone and we are saddened deeply. It's not hard to understand though as we only knew of Steve through his shows but he always managed to make his audience feel like we were his mates!.
We can only wish the best and our condolenses to Terri, the children, Steve's extended family and co-workers in this trying and tragic time.
God Bless Steve and his family.
He will be remembered as one of the greatest enviormentalists and Fathers ever.

Dear Terri, Bindi, & little Bob,

Let me start by saying that I feel as though you all are members of my own family, I know this is corny but I have spent the last 10 years watching y'all and have raised my own 2 children with you as examples. I am so sorry for your loss. My won two year old son doesn't understand why daddy is crying (and to some extent neither do I) but I felt I needed to let you know the extent of his influence on the average viewers. We'll never forget the message that you have always lived by. We've been prayin for you since we heard the tragic news. Just know that you are loved around the world and that we are here for you in any way possible.

I was so sad to hear the news about Steve. My deepest condolences to Terri, Bindi and Bob. They have suffered such a great loss.

My love for Steve began on a mom's night out with my best friend. We got to the theater and they weren't playing the movie we expected to see, so we decided to go see Steve's movie instead. We joked that we had a mom's night out, and were going to see a kid's movie. We both loved it, and walked out saying, "crikey!".

Next came the Wiggles video. Both of my children loved Steve, and when they grew out of the Wiggles, they enjoyed watching him on Animal Planet.

I feel like Steve was with our family as it grew, and as silly as it seems, I feel a great loss too.

Many a Sunday nights we would grab our popcorn and drinks and sit in front of the T.V. for Family time and watch Steve Irwin. After watching the show, our son would always say, I can't wait to grow up and be just like Steve Irwin. Thank you for inspiring our son and inspiring us! The loss that we feel is very great and our thought and prayers go out to Terri, Bindi Sue and Bob and all of Steve's close friends at the Australia Zoo. We wish we would have gotten a chance to come out and see the Great Crocodile Hunter in action.

Wow....I woke up this morning turned on the computer to read the sad news. I am still in shock over the news. I was hoping to one day be able travel to Austrialia to meet this very inspiring man. Nothing has ever touched me as much as this, except when Princess Diana died on labor day weekend. I am off on a fishing trip and will pay my respects to him today by catching and releasing the fish we catch. My thoughts and prayers are also with his family today. Please know he will never be forgot.

-distant shore-
The sea flows on past the horizonto rest upon a shore out of our sight. The stars fade in the morning sunlight and travel to another starry night. The breeze blows quietly around us; then flies away to cool a distant space. The ones we love never really leave us, but go on to another shining place.

God Bless you Terri, Bindi, and Bob!

If he was your father, your love and respect for him grew with the years as you came to realize what he had given you...
If he was your husband, the years were all good and the difficult moments serced only to strengthen the bond...if our sorrow is to be lessened by anything, it may be remembering the joy of loving and being loved by him.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!!!!

Steve; May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, may the rains fall soft upon yur fields. and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

my deepest and sincerest reguards, thoughts, and prayers go to all of Steves friends and family! God Bless you all and may you take comfort in knowing that he still lives on in every single person he has touched through the years and that he will always be with us all!

To Teri, Bindi, Bob, and all Steve's friends, family and fans - our hearts are with you. Thank you, Steve, for living such a full life and doing so much for all the living creatures on this planet. I believe in heaven you can lay down with lions and engage in conversations with the animals that any vestiges of being human prevented here (although if anyone communicated with them, it was you!) Teri, Bindi and Bob and close friends of Steve, we cry with you and will not forget. May you find comfort in your grief with the love he gave you and may your lives go on to be filled with the living that he exemplified and would wish for you.
Thank you for sharing him with the world.

I, along with most, if not the entire world, am deeply saddened by this tremendous loss. There are no words to express what and who Steve Irwin was to not only the animal world but the world in general. We have truly lost an amazing, kind, gentle, intelligent, and very funny man. My thoughts and prayers are with Terri, Bindi, and Bob for their loss is greater than any that we, the public, could ever feel! May the message and education that Steve was so well known for continue in his absence, and provide a sense of peace to those he left behind.

I heard the news while shopping with my mother and husband this morning. We all just stopped in our tracks and couldn't believe it. My husband and I are 40, our daughter is 11 and my mother is 76 and we all loved Steve. I was so upset and walked around in a daze at first. Then I thought of Steve and that he would have wanted to die doing what he loved most..being close to the animals he loved and was fascinated by. It's such a loss for his wife and children that our feelings are secondary, but people really loved him and he has been ,and will continue to, inspire generations to come with his passion and respect and love for the Earth and the creatures that inhabit it. We will miss you Steve and we pray for your loved ones today.
The world has lost a very valuable citizen today.

We offer our deepest heartfelt condolences on the loss of Steve. He was a wonderful spokesman for animals of all kinds and taught many people to love and respect our animal friends. Steve also had a love for people that was evident in all the work he did. We never had the chance to meet him or see him in person, but would have loved to. He was a great man and around the world many people will shed tears and miss him deeply. May Terri, Bindi and Bob be comforted in knowing that we are holding you in our prayers and thoughts.
