With all the crying I have been doing about this, I decided to begin the healing process and do what I can to keep Steve's dream alive. It will help the healing and the pain of loss by contributing my time to help animals and people. Steve had inspired me to care about conservation of wildlife. I feel like I have to get out there, whether volunteer my time at the Zoo, animal rescue, donations, or at the humane society. What ever it is I want to help even more. It's sad that it would take his death to do this but I want to do it now more than ever. I hope every will contribute in any way they can to continue conservation. Let's educate our children and keep the dream alive as well.
Take care everyone, chin up. Steve is lookin at all of us in heaven and wants to see more smiles, it helps his soul
ok, here's an idea.. Name your location and try to name every reptile or animal species that you have encountered and something about the species.
I live in northern Indiana, USA.
As a very young kid, I had a turtle named peewee. I was so young I still don't even know what type of turtle it was.
I've caught over 100 snakes, mainly when I was younger. They were almost all non-poisonous Garter snakes and Ribbon snakes. Several of them were green tree snakes and I believe one of them was a venemous Copperhead. Out of all of these, I was bitten by Garter and Ribbon snakes various times (with very little to no pain). One species I was never able to identify before it bit me was later determined to be not poisonous (because I had no reaction, haha). I still dont know what it was (I was too young to match it up with something online).
Besides snakes, as a kid (not so long ago) I also caught many Painted turtles (endangered in Indiana), but I never kept them. Indiana has a problem with endagered turtles and thus native turtle species cannot even be sold in pet stores. I completely agree with that. You can still get captive bred ones from other states.
As far as strange birds, I have seen owls, wild turkeys, and even some eagles.
I currently own an adult female tarantula as a pet. Her name is Harrietta. As a side note, to fit this in with Steve's theory of loving apex preditors, all tarantulas are venemous. Mine eats crickets.
