I have heard from various sources that drinking dark liquids (coffee, tea, cola) through a straw prevents your teeth from being stained by the dark liquid. I don't believe this is true because the liquid still touches your teeth before you swallow. Is there any way to test this myth and find out for certain?

I may be wrong, but I thought a straw was one of the worstways of drinking. Little kids are often advised to drink from cups not bottles and try not to use straws as the juice gets sucked up through the teeth and this is apparently how many kids have poor baby teeth.

Maybe. Confused

No, kids have poor baby teeth because they don't brush them properly.

I think the myth is balogna. Of course the liquid will touch your teeth if it gets into your mouth. How they test it? Pigs. The MythBusters will have to record all these little details of what goes on in a mouth while sipping and while sucking, then they will have to work hard on modifying the pigs' mouths to function like that. They will have to get similar teeth in the two pigs and keep filling them with staining liquids and th- on second thought, popsicles often turn teeth and tongues different colors and they wash off. Have the MythBusters drink melted popsicles both ways and see what happens.

PIGS???? You can't get pigs to sip or suck a liquid lol!!!! I'm pretty sure they would come up with something much more creative than that to test this theory. Does drinking coffee or dark liquids out of a straw prevent your teeth from staining? Yes and No...I tried drinking my coffee today out of a straw and yes it prevents the coffee from touching the front of your teeth but it does hit the backs of your teeth, but nobody sees the backs of your teeth besides the dentist so from now on I'm drinking my coffee through a straw lol
