When I was younger I was told that if your shoes were loose on a rollercoaster where you were suspended (not in a carriage) they could fly off your feet at such a speed to knock out (or cause even more harm to) someone who was stood either in the queue or just walking past out.

Was wondering if this could be tested....]

I'd say that if you did have enough speed it could come off your foot (shoe)

World record speed of a roller coaster is about 100mph, although many coasters don't go that fast.

Would a shoe tossed from a 100mph car be fatal? Given the wind resistance, it might be painful up close, but I doubt it would be fatal.

A few years ago, a person climbed over the safety fences of a roller coaster to retrieve a hat. The coaster went by, and someone's foot hit the guy, killing him, and breaking the passenger's leg.

But that's direct contact, not something thrown off a coaster.
