I think that you guys should dedicate an entire episode of Mythbusters to findind out whether or not the world could possibly end in 2012.

2 questions:

1: How would they test such a thing?
2: Why bother?

Use the FIND function, and you'll see why the whole 2012 end-of-the-world-nonsense is simply..... nonsense.

They could test it by simply filming on December 22, 2012/January 1, 2013 and just say it's busted.

The world could POSSIBLY end tomorrow. Or next week. Or when Doncaster Rovers lose again.

Care to tell us how to test it?

In which case my question #2 still stands..... why bother? At that point it will be pretty obvious it wasn't true, and there's no point wasting time on it (not that it's not obvious now, of course).

Adam: "OK, this myth is that the world will end on Dec 21, 2012".
Jamie: "It's already the 22nd"
Adam: "Well then, myth busted"

(and of course I was being a bit factious; I know you don't buy this stuff anymore than I do, Maxman)

I wasn't disagreeing with you. It would be pointless.

This would be completely pointless, We'd never even be able to see the footage of the replicated results.

There is an Asteroid that will pass close enough to the earth that it will be closer than the satellites which is around 26,000 miles from earth in 2012.

Be patient. You'll find out for certain when everyone else does. All you need to do is keep checking the date.

I don't know why you're worrying about 2012, my desk calender does not have a January 1st, 2010.

Funny, last year's calendar didn't have the 1st of January, 2009...so has the world already ended? And if so, does that mean my first year in university was in vain?

The Mayans did NOT predict the world would end in 2012. The calander ends on that date, but starts over the next day.

Someone is thinking of Apophis but getting the date very wrong. It will come very close to earth in 2029, which is just a little off 2012. It might come back and hit earth in 2036, but that wont matter because we wont be here to see it. Wink

Depends on whether you believe in prophecy. If you are a bible nut, it is part and parcel of your belief system.

My opinion?

Our poles have been shifting a lot in recent years, which plays havoc upon the world's EMF that wards us from the brunt of solar radiation. The recent upswing of solar activity is predicted to peak in 2012. Antarctica is already on the verge of melting and the December date will occur during Antarctica's summer period when the southern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun.

No prophecy needed, just scientific probability theory. Fortunately, I live in the mountains.
